Back in the mid 1980s, I shared an office with a newly graduated young engineer. She had just stated on this her first job. Being an engineer who grew-up using a slide rule for calculations, I needed to do some calculation and not wanting to go the the office electronic calculator, I pulled out my slide rule and was working away. After a minute or two I was aware of someone leaning over my desk. It was the newly hired engineer. She looked at me and said. "I've never see a slide rule, let alone any one who knew how to use one."

Several years ago I was at a Burger King when the electricity went out. The register was open, the employee asked the manager how was she going to figure the change, the reply was: do it the old fashion way and handed her a calculator, no joke.

My twin sisters are16 years younger than me. I was at the folk's house once and an old black and white movie was on TV and one of them was over turning knobs and when I asked what was wrong she said "there is no color". I said "its a black and white movie". She says "Duh, its a color TV." I said "good luck" and left LOL

I remember Jose Jimenez. On one show he told about attending an
American baseball game. He said we were all so friendly. Before the
game started we all stood up and sang Jose can you see?

Yep, used to catch him Sundays on the Ed Sullivan show. Just like the show “You asked for it” and so many others, the last few generations’ll never now what they’re missing.

There is also a lack of fundamental literacy and historical knowledge. I sometimes use relatively simple euphemisms for rather vile commentaries on the lack of worth of others* and the number of people who need to have them diagramed is truly sad.

*I grew up in upstate NY. I thought "mother" was a prefix until I was 18.

I wonder who has the rights to "You are My Candy Girl". Some restaurant chain is gobbling it up. Never thought Bubble Gum music would make a come back.

It's probably a lot from what you were constantly exposed to in your formative years. I'm sure the kids who grew up with a computer in their cribs think I just crawled out of a cave when I ask them to slowly walk me through setting up a virtual account or something like that.

That was 1972. We always had Bing’s Christmas special on in our house. I was a big fan of Bowie back then and I still am. I was pleasantly shocked when I saw him knock on the door to that old English manor and walk in and chat and then start singing with Bing. .

You may not be a Will Farrel fan, but he and John C. Reilly did a remarkable video cover line for line. They were serious up until about 4:40

My dad is an engineer, retired of course. We used to tease him about having a water cooled slide rule.

My dad was so fast with a slip stick that he could start fires with it.

With the due respect to the performers.

But they cannot beat the originals.

My thanks to CW3Mike for reminding me of this show(there are lots of things in the attic of my mind. Where, sometimes I fear, I will/have lost my marbles ).
