Well, I hope I dont get giged - again but I am wondering how we know the tax charge is REALLY going to the state?? Cannot get an answer on this one.

Everything I look at seems to already carry a hefty tax.

I don't see me buying anything through GB in the foreseeable future.

I thin k AR sales tax is like 11%. Seems high for a poor state. Average income well below national average. This will add considerably to the cost of those high end guns. I guess GB will collect the tax in a separate payment?

Simple. They tack the taxes onto the total that the buyer pays the seller, and then GB will add the same amount to fees the seller pays them. Then GB pays it to the seller's state.
That is the way eBay does it.

The same way you know that the 3 bucks or whatever sales tax you pay on a $50 purchase at a sporting goods store or bookshop is really going to the state ... you don‘t.

Except that Gunbroker and other “market facilitators” as a large business want to stay in business and therefore will have accounting procedures set up that will have the money go where it legally needs to. Once you‘ve paid the tax, it‘s really not your concern to lose any sleep over

As I read the "rules", the buyer will be charged sales tax on their purchase and pay the seller the cost of the item and tax. The buyer will be invoiced for the seller's fee as always, plua the sales tax will be added to that bill. The seller pays GB and GB pays the states.

1. How will they handle the "local" add on taxes? Our state tax is 7%, but there are other local taxes added, in Chicago it is above 10% and in my area it it between 7 and 8 %.

I assume they will just collect the State portion of tax.

thoroughly Inspect a Firearm, I won't even consider buying it,
especially from a Web Site.

There is no reason I need a Gun that bad off of a Website,
especially when there are thousands and thousands made.

I collect sales tax in a few states as I have a presence in the state.

My accountant says the fastest way to get in trouble is to take money from people as tax than not pay it to the government.

Sales tax responsibility does not expire nor does it stop at some corporate shield.

Your just an intermediary, you do get a tiny percentage for your trouble.

Wanna lose your house and maybe jail, collect but don't pay in the payroll withholding.

Ahhhhh the old 941 defalcation....much like plundering ones trust account. You WILL go to jail, be disbarred and incur a non-dischargable debt. It IS stealing other peoples money over which you have a fiduciary duty. Paperwork galore and a royal PITA but it must be done. Better to not collect rather than collect and keep

I open this thread only to alert the forum of a problem with GunBroker. I was just charged sales tax as a seller on a $3,000 rifle. Although GB has all the information for both buyer and seller it chose the seller to charge the sales tax. Multiple contacts with customer service did not remedy he situation. I'm changing my auction site.

Heard of more than one small business that went under for doing this...
