Default COVID vaccine opinions? Update post 31

Wife and I both in our 70's and we have scheduled a time next week to take the vaccine. Would like to hear of others who have taken it and any ill effects if any.

Thanks in advance.

My wife is a healthcare worker, she just got her second of the Pfizer vaccine, and she's had no adverse reaction or felt bad at all. She's 62. She did tell me a couple of her co-workers didn't feel that great for a day or so after their first shot, but bounced back pretty quick.
I'm 66, she's got me an appointment where she works to start my series. I'm retired a year and a half from healthcare (RN 37 years). I got out of it just in time.

My wife is a FNP, she took the first injection with only a sore arm. She an everyone in her clinic took the second one several days ago and it knocked all of them on their butts. My wife is not a whiner and she was down for right at 24 hours.

Pretty much the same case with the wife and her co-workers at the hospital.
I have to wait until 65+ is set to be inoculated though.

My parents are in their 90s and both recently received their first vaccine. No ill effects other than a typically sore arm as you would expect with any shot.

My daughter is 25 and got her first Phizer shot and her arm was sore. Got her second shot and she couldn't sleep but finally after she went to sleep she woke up drenched with sweat and shivering with a fever. She couldn't warm up and felt terrible for about 10 hours.

I haven't had the vaccine but had covid instead. Mine was a mild case--dry cough, dull taste, loss of appetite, severe fatigue. I'm 69--I'd take the vaccine if offered.

Received my second shot a few days ago. Side effects same as first. Sore arm. Nothing more.

The VA called my father and got his first the other day. Same sore arm. He’s 83.

My wife and I are in our late 70's and took our first vaccine (Moderna) on New Years Eve and have had no ill effects from the shot. Next day or so our arm was just a little sore but that is all.
Our daughter in law had taken the Moderna Vaccine shot about a week before we took the shot and she had a delayed allergic reaction after several weeks, injection site red and irritated, pain and itching and slight swelling and the doctor told her to take Benedryl and Tylenol and not to take the second Moderna shot. She is just fine now.

My son-in-law who is a LEO got the first injection of one of the vaccines earlier in the week. It put him in bed for a day.
He had previously been sick and tested positive for the virus, along with his wife, my daughter. Both of them were still feeling long-term fatigue symptoms from the virus when he got the vaccine.

My 80 year old mother took it. She owns a duplex in a senior independent living complex which goes from duplexes to skilled nursing. She gets her second vaccine the 20th. No ill effects, and none have been reported amongst her peers.

I'm gonna wait. I'm 57, relatively good health, and my underlying health conditions are orthopedic, not medical. Everybody that really needs it can get it first . . .

Daughter got first shot, no reaction except a bit of soreness.
Son, same but lot of soreness at injection site, for two days.
Both are essential workers and in early 40s.

I'm not eligible for the vaccine yet, but I've talked to about a dozen people - some friends, some relatives - who have had the first shot. So far the only side effect any of them have reported was a sore arm for a couple of days. Most did not even have that. In case it matters, all of them had the Moderna vaccine which seems to be more plentiful locally.

My wife works in a pharmacy where they have vaccinated about 70 people so far. Not one side effect outside of the occasional sore arm has been reported by her regular patients thus far.

Just got the first jab at my local Publix market. It's the Moderna version. Nice thin needle, and took less than 5 minutes start to finish, but he wants me to sit here for 15 minutes so I can be monitored for a possible reaction.
Are they kiddin? After all the chemo I've absorbed, this stuff is child's play.

My Wife and I were vaccinated with Moderna just yesterday. My wife has had zero reaction and all I have is a slightly sore shoulder - that's it so far.

My daughter says to get the Moderna over the Phizer as from anecdotal data more people seem to get a little ill after the second phizer shot. I've got a grand son coming into the world next week and his daddy says I can't hold him until I've had my shots Got to get a DPT booster as well as the covid as he doesn't want da baby to get da whoopin' cough or da covid. I told my wife that it is going to take some getting used to, me not calling the shots anymore-but my son is the boss now....as it should be!

I’ll take it when I get it. The school district I drive for is opening up fully next week. I have been driving short schedules with very small loads. I was exposed earlier in the year and had to quarantine for 14 days. We have had a couple dozen drivers get covid-19, one fatality, most recovered and are back at work.

I had the Pfizer vaccine.
The first one my experience was same as everyone else, a sore arm for a day.
Second one was a little rougher.
Body aches that woke me up the second night after the vaccination. Low grade headache too.
But I got up and went to work in the ER the next day so it wasn't bad enough to call off for.

Wife and I had the first stick with the Moderna vaccine yesterday afternoon.
I woke up this morning feeling particularly lazy, lethargic, sorry, and no account.

But that’s how I feel every morning when I wake up.

My mom.(87) got her Moderna shot this morning. I just talked to her and she said she has no soreness in her arm.

She got a Garfield bandaid so she's got that going for her.

Which is nice.

I go next Tuesday to get my first shot...I'll let you know how it works out.

I've never had a real problem with vaccines in the past, and don't anticipate any issues this time...but we'll see.

Thanks for asking. She is doing well. According to her Fitbit she walks 7 miles per shift.

According to mine I am a glacier.

My mom turns 89 in Feb. I called her Rheumy, she has an autoimmune disorder, to see what he says. He said, that while the benefits outweigh the risks, but because she is treated with a what is, in essence, cancer drug, not to get it until March or April because the cancer drug will make the vaccine less effective. He didn't have any preference.

Her only exposure to 'rona is from me. Even if I wanted to get the vaccine, but because of my age, and lack of medical issues, I'd be among the last to get it.

Tomorrow, when I take my mom to her PCP for a regular check up, I'll ask her, the PCP, what she thinks.

My mom is an old school nurse and she's very wary about getting it due to her sensitivity of just about every vaccine and new drug.

My wife and I both got our first rounds of the Moderna vaccine yesterday. The process at our local hospital ran very smoothly. Neither of us have had any side effects whatsoever and don't expect to.

My mom's PCP said that her husband, another doc, had a reaction to the first pfizer shot and that the side effects took him out for a couple of days. She said the second shot wasnt too bad. She got the moderna, she said she wasn't feeling right for a few hours after the first shot. She hasn't gotten the second one, yet.

She said that if it were her mom, and given my mom's medical history, she recommended that my mom wait for the other vaccines from astrazenica and J&J find out what their side effects are. She said she'd advise what she thinks is best .

My wife is a kidney transplant recipient. The Department of Health called today to talk with her about her vaccine registration. All well and good, but...

She is in the hospital, with COVID-19

Both of us have been feeling puny since Tuesday, symptoms of a cold, with congestion and cough. O2 sats good for both of us, no fever. We did a COVID "spit" test that was sent off Friday. Yesterday evening, we get back the results. Both positive. On the advice of her transplant team she went to the hospital by ambulance. Good thing, since her kidney function was showing some compromise. They also did a nasal swab test that also showed positive.

I am home in quarantine, sent a message to my PCP to see if there is anything else he wants me to do or prescribe for me.

If you are willing, a prayer offered for my wife and myself would be appreciated. I guess the vaccine isn't a big rush right now.

I can't get my 86 year old mom to take it! She gave one reason and I told her that the Pope hisself has granted permission for Catholics to take ot-so safe harbor there Just got a letter from the home she is staying in-she is the only one who has not gotten it and reading between the lines if she doesn't take it she is gonna get the boot or at the very least will be grounded and not be allowed to eat out of her room and won't be able to go to mass. I'm getting too old for this nonsense. If I have to I'll drive to Dallas and give it to her myself
Update: Just googled Pope and vaccine and found that not only the forward thinking liberal Jesuit Pope took the vaccine but also the backward thinking strict by the book old school Pope emeritus took it. Ought to cover all the bases. Sent the e mail to mom and told her that all surviving past and present Popes have taken it so that ought to make it OK for her. This might save me a trip to Dallas
I can't wait to live long enough to cause my kids trouble

Wife and I got our 1st shots last Wed. It was the most organized operation I recall seeing, In and out within 30 minutes. Only the need for more parking keeps them from doing 1500 a day for our little community. Our Pub Health Director should get a Commendation.

Great news-my little brother went to see mom last night and convinced her to take the shot. I asked him if the atricle I sent about both Popes geting the vaccine did the trick and he said that the tipping point was when he told her either she lets the medics give her the shot or I was gonna drive up and give her the shot!
Well played little brother....well played indeed

Default Moderna

Got the Moderna shot on Jan 7th. Did drive through and never left my truck.
Easiest shot I ever had, no more pain than any other shot. Second shot is scheduled for Feb 4th.

My wife is in hospital since Saturday, “double Covid related pneumonia.” Last test I’m still negative. No one has a coherent tx plan. The upside is that she has met her yearly $7K out of pocket deductible in one whack. Joe

Deet-Da-Deet-Deet: this just in: "You are an employee over 65 y/o and are PRIORITY C19 vax target!" I fill out the paperwork and voila, I'm on a waiting list. No telling when that will be. In the meantime: "Get back to work!" Joe

My wife got her vaccine today. She is a cancer survivor and has allergies so she was on a priority list at the Doctors office. They had her wait 30 minutes to see if any allergic reaction. None. They told her that the second shot is the one that usually causes tiredness, slight feeling bad for a couple of days. Apparently the first shot will give 50% immunity and the second shot boosts it up into the 90%.

I am 67 and healthy and on several waiting lists so likely it may be several months the way it is going here in Va.

I got my first shot this AM and a COVID card from the CDC filled out showing that I received the shot. We had 8" of snow last night but I was determined to get it. Truck was in 4-wheel drive on the way over and back.

I got mine Friday.. Walk in to the local Albertsons pharmacy. Didn't feel the shot. Sat for 15 minutes to see any reaction. None at any time.

Got a card with my next shot date and info on it...

If they get the vaccine for the second shot, I'm good to go.
