Default NRA magazine

I have been an NRA Endowment member for some time and I subscribe to The American Rifleman magazine. I just noticed that the last magazine I received was for Dec 2020, which I received in early Nov or late Oct if I remember correctly. I have not received my Jan or Feb magazine yet. I talked to a friend of mine and he said the same thing, that he has not received his new magazine for a few months. I was wondering if you folks are still receiving your American Rifleman magazine or not?

I think they cut back on the number of issues. You're missing nothing. Despite all that's happened, I want to think the NRA is still a worthwhile organization, but the AMERICAN RIFLEMAN has suffered a significant deterioration in the last thirty years. Not close to the magazine it once was and it appears to be a very low priority of NRA management.

The latest one I got has another 1911 on the cover so it’s hard to tell what month it is. Joe

I find it incredibly boring to see another 9mm writeup, but apparently I'm in a minority. They must have written up hundreds of such articles on different 9mms in the last twenty years, many of them almost the same gun with another name. Even the mediocre group sizes are the same.

Same here. It was once ridiculed as puny. Now they call it the king.........However the REAL KING is the 45acp........Which earned it's reputation with HARDBALL ammo.

I got the Jan. Rifleman and my wife got the Jan. Hunter. I assume the Feb. issues will be here sometime. The delivery of our mail leaves several things too be desired. I wish we had Pony Express because it would be faster and more efficient. Larry

I opted a couple of years ago to get my magazine electronically (email), it has been very erratic.
But my last issues were for January and February.

I can thumb through the magazine and read the interesting articles on the walk to the house from the mailbox (250 feet). It's become an advertising medium for the gun industry and not much more. They rarely reach the house any more, the recycle bin gets most of them. I'm a life member for 20 years, now, but all I see is requests for more money, which I suppose they need to keep 2A alive.

I got mine today as well. Feb. issue, but I get Shooting Illustrated rather than American Rifleman. Not sure why, but it was the one I picked when I signed up.

I enjoy reading the historical articles (Guns of D-Day, Guns of Vietnam etc). Also the last page "I have this old gun", that's usually interesting.

All the new stuff is reinventing the wheel to me. I really am not interested in 95% of it.

It is what it is.

If you don't feel that you are getting your magazines on time call
the NRA at 703-267-1640, and ask them about the magazines and when they are supposed to be delivered.

I think it would be pretty pointless to jump on that just yet. The mail is slooow everywhere. I just received my December CC bill, a mere two days before the payment date. Good thing I went ahead and paid by phone last week.

Depends what you call mediocre. "Cpmbat accurate" is good enough for most folk with a gun these days, and many would struggle get even that from a bench. I'm talking 4 inch, 5 round groups at 25 yards with a handgun, and similar at 100 yards with a semi auto rifle in 5.56 NATO with SS193. Go see the test they did on the Box of Truth website re the 5.56.

Every so often a some budget 9mm puts in a 2 inch @ 25 yards performance in the hands of Rifleman magazine and leaves everyone scratching their heads. There was a polymer Stoeger about a year ago that did just that. "Hands" is the operative term, too. Most of the guns they test never see a Ransom rest because suitable inserts are unavailable. It's why 1911s always seem to do better, because they are Ransom compatible.

I never received a new mortgage statement, so I looked to see if the last one that I mailed 11 days before it was due had posted? Nope!

I paid it electronically without being late. Three days later the one that I mailed posted!

I received state runoff campaign stuff Friday. The election was on the 5th.

That's all I'm going to type....

Granted, there are always exceptions, but I stand by my original post. A hand-rested pistol fired at 25 yards by a skilled shooter should fare comparably with the same gun fixed in a Ransom rest at the same distance. Longer range, the Ransom will likely have the advantage.

Yep, I also have been receiving my American Rifleman. I DO think it is a worthwhile read. The first couple paragraphs of the Keefe Report on page 8 of the Feb issue is a good explanation of why they have to print some of things they do, and spend so much effort on certain issues. In my opinion.
They are worth our support.

The February 2021 issue arrived today. It has a picture of the HK SP5 on the cover.
Mine arrived today. For those counting, the first 1911 is on pg. 5 - a shameless full-page ad for the tarted-up “NRA 150th Anniversary Tribute Pistol”. A mere $2195 for a one of 500 Colt Govt. Model. (Display case extra.)

Yawn...but still better-looking than the Leupold ad for a red dot on a Glock on pg. 7.
