Default I tethered to the internet

My wife and I lost our internet connection. It took a couple to three days to get hold of our ISP and have it fixed. Since I prefer to use my desktop computer for the internet, I took a crash course in how to use my cell phone to connect another device to the internet via the phone. I used a USB cable as it was easier, but you can also connect wirelessly.

Of course, this uses data from your cell phone, but if you have one of the "unlimited" plans and don't do any real serious internet work (gaming, streaming movies, etc.) it shouldn't be any problem. It also may be necessary to have "Hot Spot" capability on your cell phone plan.

For those of you not familiar with this, just do an internet search for tethering or hot spot. It's pretty easy to do in a pinch should the need arise.

I think a lot of us have a bad Internet fixation.
I watch several RV full timers on youtube and it’s amazing how they drive all over and manage to upload videos.

I too use a computer for most of my internet usage. In my area, your only options are cellular, dial up, or satellite. Even though I don't live in the boonies, we are for whatever reason forsaken when it comes to high speed internet.

I have a cell phone with unlimited data that is used only for internet access. While I could tether it to my computer, I opted for using is as a hot spot. I have a TP Link AC1300 wireless antenna that plugs into the computer and picks up the phone's wifi.

I have no problem doing normal internet things, and can stream as well.

In terms of USB tethering, you can also tether the cell to a router, set up
a wi-fi network on the router, and connect your laptop, TV, tablet etc to
the net via wi-fi.

When my Uverse connection works on a good day can get 8-10 mbps. If I tether to the phone with USB I get 50 to 80.
