SHOCKED
I went to a local LGS today. Was shocked in several areas. I expected to see little or no ammo. But the guns, these guys usually 500+long guns and several cases full of handguns. I don't think there were even 100 guns there altogether. Mostly hunting guns. I was again shocked at the S&W case, they always had 2 shelves in a 9-10 foot case, that held 40-50 nice older Smiths. Many models and in good shape, $500-$1500 range. It was empty!! Looks like not first time buyers to me, good investments.

I think between the events of this summer and what's going on tomorrow, everyone who could buy, has.

There's a shop just South of PGH that usually has what ammo I want, but only 2 boxes of each per person. I bought a nice 629-6, 6"there. I traded a nice Ruger Lipsey .327 FM + some cash for it. We were both happy. I still have another GP100 in .327, so no biggie for me. It's about the best shop I've been in around here, but a couple others I've left feeling good.
The online shops all seem to be "Out Of Stock" on everything I want to window shop.

Swung by Cabela's this morning on my way home from my son's house. Ammo shelves were bare...except for a box of 7-30 Waters, two boxes of 35 Whelan, and two boxes of 26 Nosler. Yep. All the popular cartridges.

It also depends on what kind of neighborhood you live in. If you live in a highly populated "anti" area, stores are probably much more likely to have stock. Live in an area that there are many pro gun people - not so much!
That said - it could also be a case of being at the right place at the right time.

MidwayUSA has been my go to shop for ammo. Can pick it up and avoid shipping. They have nothing at all in the way of self defense ammo. Some bird shot and high priced odd ball stuff.

I drive all over the lower half of my state. Same everywhere. They all look like the are having a going out of business sale. Nobody sells guns like an anti-gun politician.

I wanted an item for my boat and found it on West Marine's web site. It showed that my local store had one in stock. When I got there I noted that at least 1/3 of the shelves were bare. I know that boats are now selling like hotcakes because many people lost their planned vacations, so I asked the clerk if there is an equipment buying frenzy. She said no, they can't replenish their stock because of shipping problems.
I wonder if simply delivering ammo is part of the problem?

Bare, or almost bare, handgun and ammo shelves have pretty much become the norm around here lately. There are still some long guns and very scarce ammo, in some places.
I'm hoping it is like the .22 shortage we had a few years ago, back to normal before too long.

A couple of us went to the Lakeland show this past Saturday . Prices on ammo was crazy . People were lined up to pay $1 an round for 9mm . When we first walked in a vendor was unloading and Erik asked him about some primers he had , $200 a box he said . There were some real nice S&W's , but the prices reflected that .
I was looking at a 422 and talking , the guy said two gentleman came in Friday while they were setting up buying guns . He said they bought 37 off him . They were going to a gun show this weekend somewhere up north . It's getting , no it is crazy out there in the gun world .

You can always find it there if you are willing to pay for what it is selling for.
Two to three months ago the lowest prices for 9mm were 45 to 50 cents a round. I got 11 boxes of Federal for 48 cents. Now the same ammo is 90 cents.

I reload my practice ammo. I needed name brand .45 acp hollowpoints. I think I did quite well actually, considering. If the price offends your sensibilities, don't buy. It'll be a while before cheap ammo returns, if it ever does. BTW, I get out plenty.
