Here are a couple I have posted around the ol' homestead. So far, I haven't had any problems with trespassers of any kind.

For the OP, stick a quarantine sign on the porch with caution tape across the door. Use this Covid to your mom’s benefit.

The legal consequences will vary from state to state. In WA, it justifies immediate arrest if one passes it. I did not care for the non-compliant, so we added a chain link fence with a locked gate. I do not want anyone to feel welcome coming here uninvited. The only time it is a problem is when we have food delivered, and we have a protocol for working with the drivers. We get virtually everything that comes by UPS/Fedex sent to the street address of the Post Office, or to my office.

You have to make up your mind to call the cops on every person who passes the sign if the law in your state is similar to ours. I was ruthless about it. No one stayed long enough to get arrested when told I had called the cops. I did not open the door, but merely yelled through it, generally from a few feet to the side. I had to yell to be heard over the Rottweilers. Made a couple people cry. Good.

Our no trespassing signs state as follows: "Violators will be Prostituted!"

So far, so good.

You come to my door with that attitude on MY property and you're gonna need some help leaving.

I think the last people that came to my door soliciting anything were two black ladies from a Neighborhood Church who seem to show up every couple months. Every time they do we tell them we're already members of a church but thank you for coming and they go on their way.

Anybody else that's actually selling something I just tell them I'm not interested and I don't open the door. It's not even so much that it ends the conversation as it never gives the conversation a chance to go anywhere. We don't seem to have any problems.

That said, I'm going to say it again if you open the door screaming at somebody and asking if they can read all you're doing is setting yourself up for a conflict that could have been avoided.

When the gospel spreaders show up at my door, I simply tell them I will listen to their views if they will listen to mine first. So far, no takers. If it is a salesman I tell him I am selling chain and go into a spiel about chain offering to show them samples. "But, I am selling brushes" "Ya, and I am selling chain" Putting them on the wrong side of the table confuses the heck out of them and sends them away with a what happened look on their face. Word must have gotten around because it has been a long time since anyone tried to save me and I am far enough out the peddlers don't spend time around here.

OP...Every State has their own Trespass Statutes...Find out what the requirements are where you’re Mom lives...If She has Internet, You can put up an outdoor Camera or two that runs on batteries, like the Blink, that will record video and audio and alert your Cell phone.

Gently remind Her to always keep all her entry/exit doors locked..

This attached pic is a friends Driveway, entire property is fenced and is zoned Agricultural/ Residential...Locked entry drive gate, 24/7, No Trespassing sign, further down the driveway is a metal sign
“Notice This Property is protected by video surveillance ”. ..This system has worked real well for Him.....

Trespass is a an arrestable misdemeanor, in this State, unless the subject has a weapon, like a knife, or a screwdriver, than it’s a Felony.

The Ranch North of Chama, NM where I took that picture is big.
You can go North on a public road, which left on the picture, all the way to Colorado.
It’s just under 10 miles and they own it on both sides of the road.
And it’s properly marked. There’s a No Trespassing Sign every 600 feet all the way to CO!
When you get to the state line, you cross over into National Forest.
I have been up there in Deer-Elk season.
The CO side was a small town!
Wall to wall Humanoids, horses, vehicles of every kind.

In most areas, they (solicitors at a residence) are required to pay for the privilege within the local municipality. My unscientific guess is somewhere around 100% do not do this. Might be worth a call to the local LE to find out what applies in her situation. Tragically, and unfortunately, some try to take advantage of the elderly (my mom being one). This isn't the 1970s-1980s anymore with door-to-door vacuum sales...

Saw a large hand painted sign attached to tree on a nice mountain property
“Caution-Tick Infested Area!”
Followed by a paragraph on tick transmitted diseases and their consequences "No Trespassing" Sign Curiousity Question.

I've always like the sign that said:
BEWARE OF DOG-He eats who owner shoots.

Or there's the more spiritual approach:

Try this one:

Recently, we did a property check and found at the driveway entrance, the two T- post with a steel cable severely bent in. The T- post were embedded in concrete but still OK after we straightened them and the cable was still intact with the catches.
No other damages and thinking someone may have not seen the cable a night and may have tried to use the off road driveway to turn around. Could have been a accident. Added a new sign and ribbons .
New sign, ' Trespassers Will Be Eaten'

In NC, trespassing is entering the property of the owner without permission. A class 2 misdemeanor. And, the property owner is allowed to “lay a gentle hand “ on a trespasser who refuses to leave, LOL. The Spectrum salesman made me so mad as he refused to quit talking and leave. I would say to him “that’s none of your business”, “you need to leave now”, and he seemed offended........kept on talking.

Spectrum sells door to door? Good to know. You sure can’t get them on the phone in person . . .
