Default Sabbath Day Ramblings Jan 24, 2021

Good Sabbath Sunday Ya'll,

How many of you remember the New Years Eve night of 12-31-1999?? You know the world was supposed to stop, banks were to fail, and any number of bad things were to happen. Everybody was supposed to download a little computer file that would make it all ok, because the clock would work even after midnight. Back in the day when I read every Hardy Boy book I could find, there was one entitled: "It Happened At Midnight." Well, on that New Year's Eve, it happened at midnight, all the clocks worked, our checking account was still there, and life went on. I figured that if the computers did fail, we got along just fine before they came along, and would continue to do so. Just a reminder, even though it seems like yesterday, it was 21 years ago.

Yesterday started out ok, a good breakfast, and nothing on the calendar except a haircut. Well, a finders fee if the truth be known.

My suspicions were tweaked a little when the MBH wanted to stop by the church and print out the 2020 contribution statements. "About 30 minutes or so." said she, several hours (many) later we had corrected the spreadsheet and crashed into bed. So today, computers are not on my favorites list.

A much brighter outlook today after a shower, breakfast and coffee. Some nice posts on the board this week, guitars passed on to friends, the first battle in one of the Gulf Wars, I forget which. And a funny story about keeping squirrels out of the church building. I shared that with a couple of Pastor friends.

A beautiful day outside, so let's get out and enjoy it. We are looking forward to Worship service this morning.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Oh yes. The night I learned to never say no to hubby's travel suggestions.

I was in NY and he was working at Trane in Clarksville TN, and "suggested" we go to Paris for New Years Eve. I stupidly said no because I didn't want to go someplace cold. I didn't realize, and he didn't say, that the "surprise" trip was already bought and paid for. He cancelled everything.

Instead, I flew to Tennessee and spent New Years with him in a quiet local pub. The TV overhead was showing the midnight celebrations around the world, when it transitioned to the party at the Eifel Tower, where he'd planned for us to be, my lesson to be more agreeable was learned.

He took me to Paris, TN instead.

I remember it very well everyone was predicting it would be doomsday so to speak; couldn't get food, gas, money from bank, all stores would be frozen and couldn't open. In other words the world as we knew it would suddenly be frozen.

Anyway life did go on and here we are in 2021 to wish everyone a good Sunday. My Church did not have service since my Pastor was tested positive for COVID about a week and a half ago but, Lord willing everything will be back on track for services next Sunday .

Hope all here have a blessed Sunday and a great week to come.

A friend and his wife spent the night before the "crash" in his deer
blind on their hunting forty. He figured if everything fell apart he'd be all set for it.

He told me he woke up and turned on the battery powered radio in the AM. Found out everything was pretty much normal and went home for breakfast.

Always good to read your Sunday posts, Leon. You have a great outlook on life. I hope a little of it rubs off on me.

To this day, a friend insists on spelling months of a calendar ending in "y" with a "k." Januark, Februark etc. Y2K. 21 years ago Y2K was concerning, today it lives on in his spell checker.

Yes, but they try to keep it under their hat.

Good morning, Leon.

Yes, remember Y2K well. I played weekends in a Classic/Top 40 Country/Classic Rock band and we were playing in Cambridge City, IN that night. We stopped playing just before midnight and everyone was standing around waiting to see what happened. Nothing happened LOL. We took the stage and sang Auld Lang Syne and everyone continued to celebrate the new year. Playing music for 43 years gave me a lot of memories! 2020, not so much.

The boys and I are pumped. We've got the tubes warming up in the old DuMont and eagerly await the Brady/Rodgers and Allen/Mahomes matchups.

Snacks, sodie pop and barley pop are all laid in.

Set phaser to fun.

Not just everyone gets to go to Paris, TN, especially for the Catfish Festival!

Take your own ketchup and tartar sauce to be on the safe side!

Have a blessed day,

Leon
I remember that like it was yesterday. I figured if the banks were writing 30 year mortgages in the 1990s they must have had everything figured out.

I guess I'm late to the party today. I got distracted by having a telephone conference meeting for a District Meeting of the Sons of the American Legion. I'm the Vice Commander of our local squadron and I've become the official unofficial Public Relations Officer so I represent our squadron most of the time at the District Meetings.

Yesterday I went shooting for the first time this year. The club I belong to on the other side of Harrisburg has an indoor range. I took up my S&W Model 41 and a High Standard military grip .22 target pistol to get some live fire practice. I dug out some of the old .22 shells that were probably 15 or 20 years old. I was glad to see that I could make some bona fide groups shooting one-handed offhand. I want to start getting in some serious practice for if the .22 league at my Maryland club starts up.

Most of the rest of the day I've been watching football playoffs. Everybody have a good rest of tonight and a wonderful day tomorrow.

I remember Y2K well. Folks were stocking up on bottled water, canned food, propane for grills, oil lamps, generators, flashlights, batteries, and anything else they could think of that would help them get through. Lots of people emptied their bank accounts so they could have cash at home. Every time somebody asked me what I was doing to prepare I said, "Nothing's gonna happen, so I'm not doing anything." They didn't believe me, but I turned out to be right.

Lee, Instead of paying your barber a finders fee for finding hairs to cut, you should get a discount for less wear and tear on his scissors

Lived in an Apt on the West side of Indy. Had gotten my Christmas bonus
check almost a month earlier. Bought a Colt MT6900 and beaucoup mags and ammo.

Stayed home that night. Cute red headed neighbor across the hall got scared about 11:30 and came over with her cat.

At Midnight, it was D-Day! Automatic weapons, big bore rifles, high powered rifles, assault rifles, pistols, shotty's, etc.

This kept up for over 2 hours. I was in Cat 1, she was scared s'less and her cat and my dog slept through it.

Only 2 ventilated in my apt complex. No, none of them was from me!
