Default Covid shots

We are going to get the Moderna vaccine Wednesday.
I'm looking forward to starting to throw off the yoke of Covid, but admit to being apprehensive .

We're 80 and 82. I sure hope they don't expect us to stand in long lines.

I'll post how it went.

I got my first shot 10 days ago.

They set up specific a specific time for me. Took 5 minutes from arriving at the hospital to getting the shot. They had us wait 15 minutes before leaving (auditorium seating with distancing).

I was leaving the parking lot within 30 minutes of arriving.

My 73 yr old sister with pre-existing medical conditions received her first 3 weeks ago. The only symptom she had was some soreness at the injection site. Her second will be this coming Saturday, it’ll be interesting to see what, if any, reaction she has.

I’m 64 with a couple of issues plus I had covid at the beginning of December. Waiting to be notified I can get the shots.

Wife and I got first round of Pfizer two weeks ago this coming Thursday. I had a sore arm the next day she had a tired feeling on day two. Our second round is slated for the eleventh of tis month. We were about an hour and a half total but they made her wait thirty minutes instead of 15. From the time
we got in line until the time we got the shot about 45 mins.

I'm 50 and got my first shot of the Moderna vaccine on January 19th. The next morning I was aching all over...and it felt like I had the flu. I took the day off just to make sure that I didn't already have COVID before the shot. By noon, I was feeling better, and I felt perfectly fine the next day (except for a small sore spot on my arm). I get the 2nd dose on Feb. 16th - and I'm told it'll be worse. That's fine by me. I'm ready to get some degree of immunity so I can get back to a somewhat normal life.

We got our Moderna shots two weeks ago and it was pretty much uneventful except for sore shoulders. We get the second part in two weeks and hope that one is no worse.

My wife and I got ours last week through our hospital system. Nothing local near Atlanta so we grabbed an appointment in Columbus about 90 mins away. It was run like a well oiled machine. We got there early, masked up, went in and were out in 30 mins which included a 15 minute wait after the shot to check for adverse effects. While we waited, we were able to go online and schedule the 2nd shot (Pfizer) on the 13th at a site closer to our home but still an hr away. No adverse reactions but for slightly sore arms. We've heard some bad stories after the 2nd shot (flu like symptoms for 2 days) and we're hoping that we won't have the same problems.

We're headed for our second shot this Sunday . Had no reaction other than the normal soreness at the injection point.

Have no reason to think Sunday's shot will be any worse.

I got my first injection of the Pfizer vaccine this morning at the VA. I'm scheduled for round 2 on the 22nd. So far I've had no reactions to the shot but an hour afterwards I got a hankering for BBQ ribs.

I'm under 65 and have no underlying health issues. I expect Nevada will have a vaccine ready for me in October.

I got my first Moderna shot Friday. No adverse symptoms so far. I’m looking forward to my second shot in four weeks to know that I have a significant level of immunity. I would love to return to something resembling a normal life style.

Got our first Moderna injection two weeks ago come Wednesday. Wife had slight soreness at injection site. I woke up next morning aching all over, lethargic, not wanting to get out of bed. Of course that’s how I wake up every morning, so no byproducts from the shot. Looking forward to second shot in a week or so.

Just got my second Moderna shot today. Arm a little sore like the first time. Wonder if we’ll need another booster in the Fall.

Seems to be a goatrope here in Virginia. State and county website are set up to enable you to determine where you are on the priority list, but then every other link goes to a dead end in trying to actually get your name on a waiting list or determine how and where I get the shots. My doc has not been able to even find out if he's going to give the shots or whether some central agency will handle it in vaccination centers.
Some of my neighbors have had the shots but won't say what their connection was or give details about how it all happened for them, while the rest of us are in limbo.

My daughter and I have had no luck getting scheduled for a shot. She is haunting the computer every day. She is 76 and I am almost 96.

If one of you get scheduled, bring the other. I’ve had two friends bring their elderly parent to get vaccinated, and while they did not have an appt themselves, they received the vaccine.
Why? The vaccine was going to be tossed into the garbage.

To add, take any appt you are offered even if you need to travel, you may not get another chance for weeks or months.

For all of but one of my friends, it was no big deal. The one did get flu like symptoms after second shot. My bosses wife got the first shot, five days later she got Covid from her father. For me if I decide I have to wait 90 days after my covid date which was Christmas If I decide to get it. I figure the vaccine is probably needed by others more than me.

It will probably be a while for me. County is only getting 200 doses of vaccine per week. 3000 residents in the currently eligible group.

My daughter and grandson both got their second Moderna shot the other day and had to take off work the next day. They both ran fever and felt really bad. My daughter still felt bad the next day but went on to work.

30 minutes door to door for my 1st dose. Also please remember the vaccine protects you. You can still carry the virus and pass it on to others so all of the usual safeguards need to still be practiced!

Got the first Pfizer shot yesterday, around 1:36 pm. Felt fine afterwards, and feel fine this morning.

Our governor opened the vaccinations to those 65 and over two to three weeks ago. The vaccinations are being given at various locations throughout the state. I went on the state website the next day, but could not find an appointment. For a week or so afterwards, every time I went on the website, it showed no first doses available. Then on Monday, January 25, it showed first doses available at several locations, none of which were nearby. I was able to get an appointment in Oxford, around 150 plus miles away, for 2:40 pm on Monday, February 1st. Much (but not all) of the trip is up I55, a drive I have made numerous times, and generally enjoy.

So yesterday, I headed up to Oxford, and found the location without any trouble. I arrived around 1:15, well ahead of my appointment. It was a very well run process, run by the National Guard for the most part. I was given a short form to fill out, got in the line of vehicles, and was given my shot by a guardsman around 1:36 pm. well ahead of my scheduled appointment, and after the mandatory fifteen minute wait, was headed back to Madison. It was a drive-thru process, and I never had to leave my truck. By the time of my scheduled appointment at 2:40 pm, I was south of Batesville on I55, headed back to Madison.

While it was somewhat far to drive to get a shot, it is not that unusual for covid vaccinations in this state at this time. The guardsman who gave me the shot told me he had given one to someone who had driven up from Hattiesburg, which is somewhere around ninety miles south of me. Although overcast, the weather was good and I enjoyed the drive. My work is somewhat slow right now, and I did not mind the trip.

Health dept announced shots available at 10am for over 65. I went
at 8:15 and miles long line Went back at 9:30 and was advised that
all the numbers were gone at 9:15. Later found out they started giving
numbers out around 7am. Seems only county employees and school
system people knew about it. Later announced sigh up via computer.
Went to sign up about 9 hours later and was number 9,601. What
a mess. I am 75 year old cancer survivor and have no idea when I will
get it. They had a photo in the paper of a 17 year old young man
getting the shot since he volunteered at a fire department.

^^^what Geronimo Jim said. And I just read that WV had the vaccine situation under control... Same story here in LV: photo of a young clerical worker in the DA's office being vaccinated. From what I've seen, vaccs are taking place at a leisurely pace, with the official excuse that there is a vaccine shortage. Many contradictions. Who said, "It's OK to lie if everyone tells the same lie."

I received the 1st shot on 1-23 in a pharmacy. I imagined there would be 9 or 10 people scheduled in the same time slot: nope, only me. And during the 15 min. 'after-wait,' only 1 other person arrived. At this pace, the population will not be vacc'd by the end of 2021.

FWIW, I reacted poorly to the Moderna shot: pain, ache through the back and shoulders, a sick feeling similar to what I felt after cancer radiation, and diarrhea, all for 3 days.

A bit of information relating to Covid vaccination reactions. Although miserable for a few days I am hoping for a reaction when my turn comes. I think a few days of feeling poorly is preferable to one minute on a ventilator. The Second COVID-19 Shot'''s Side Effects Are Worth It - The Atlantic

My wife and I got our 2nd Covid Vaccination (Moderna) yesterday at 4pm in the afternoon and neither of us has had a reaction to either shot we took. Just lucky I guess because I do know some friends that have had mild reactions to the Moderna shots. We are very glad to have gotten both vaccinations as soon as we did. The advice given by the people doing the vaccinations and the 5 page printed information furnished to each individuals has a lot of good information and usually if you get by the first 24 hours without a reaction you will be ok.
Exception to the above comments is my daughter-in-law because she had a delayed reaction to the 1st shot by about 1 1/2 weeks later and she had swollen lympth nodes under left arm, itching, some slight pain. She took Benedry and Tylenol and used some itch cream. She was prepared for the 2nd shot and started medicating ahead of time and she is okay.

Yes, we all need seriously consider taking advantage of this option to keep living.
I just learned that Artie Webb, a dear young man that was my niece's close friend and bass player in her band passed from Covid, after a week of symptoms.
He was a big, strong 45 year old, with a booming voice. He loved his family, music, and the NY Jets.

Got my Pfizer vaccination (1st one) Jan 22nd. Scheduled for 2nd on Feb 16th. Here when you fall in the category that they are vaccinating you can be added to waiting list online. Then they email you a link to make an appointment. The vaccination is a drive through where everything is done right from the car. A little waiting in line in the car, but not bad. Wife just fell into the category they are doing now so I got her on the waiting list now. No reaction to the shot other than a slight sore arm.

I just switched to non filter cigarettes and continue on as usual. Virus doesn't have a chance. "Vaccine? I don't need no stinkin vaccine."

getting the shot since he volunteered at a fire department.

I refuse those open ended “just show up but we have limited resources” debacles.

For those in the PITTSBURGH area: My friend got his shot at the Monroeville location, a hotel near the mall. He said it was very organized and the line moved very quickly. I believe that's where I'll go when it gets down to my turn.
The location in Lawrenceville, Wilson's drug store at Penn Ave. & Main St., looked like a wait-out-in-the-cold nightmare. I drove past the other day and they were lined up all the way down the sidewalk in the direction of Children's Hosp. and down the hill. The only parking over there is at the grocery store on Liberty Ave., but at least it's a place to get your shot.

I'm somewhere on a long list waiting for a call with an appointment. With the shot one can still get infected, can still be infectious, still need a mask and must still social distance. I'm having a hard time seeing the point of getting the shot. But my PCP says get one so if I get an appointment I guess I will.

We're still at the beginning of this rollout, but this data from Israel, the world's most inoculated country looks excellent.

Israel's second-largest healthcare provider Maccabi published figures showing 66 people out of a group of 248,000 vaccinated (0.03%) caught the Covid-19 virus, more than a week after receiving the second dose of the vaccine.

Of those 66, all had mild symptoms and none were hospitalised.

Just got home from our first Moderna shot. Long long lines. But so far the shot is no big deal. :-)

I just got my second shot. We'll see how I feel tomorrow. So far so good.

Edit to add:
Moderate soreness at injection site this morning. Same as with the first shot. Very slight sore throat which seems to have gone away. I have read that usually symptoms appear in 24 hours if you are going to get them. It's been about 16 for me and practically no discomfort so far.

You may get infected but it will probably keep you off a ventilator which you may never get off alive. Yes, you will still need to wear a mask to protect others.

Got my first Pfizer shot yesterday morning (3 Feb) at our county Fairgrounds Health Center, literally 15 minutes from our place. Got my second scheduled for the 28th, same location. It went fairly smoothly, about 45 minutes from my scheduled start time to leaving. The process will smooth out as they are still in their learning curve. Florida is still in their first stage of inoculations (over 65 and first responders), so my wife is still waiting; she’s 62 (I’ll be 73 next week - I married a young chick!) with a pre-existing health condition. So far I just have a sore arm but I’ve read the second shot side effects are a bit more noticeable. Small price to pay. Has any state started their second tier of shots (those younger then 65 with pre-existing health conditions)?

"Taking their sweet time"

It can be frustrating just waiting for your turn. They are allotted only so many doses at a time so they may use them up all in one day, so speed is not really a factor. Rushing around frantically may make for better PR but I am glad to see them taking a methodical, medically advisable approach.
