Default POLLUTION TEST

I guess Bill Gates wants all the first world countries to go to artificial meat. Among other things he said that a cow emits more pollution than a car.

I suggest he spends 4 hours in a garage with a running car, while I spend 4 hours in a garage with a living cow, then we compare notes afterwards.

I heard him say to paraphrase “yes, my carbon footprint is huge, but I do other good things”. Elitism.

You forgot to say with all doors and windows closed. Just to leave no doubts on the matter.

Easy. A total lack of external corrections.

I doubt anyone who he's in contact with ever says anything besides "Yes Sir."

100% accurate. Elitist thinking is called solipsistic, another term 100% accurate. Joe

How much pollution cows emit, and whether it exceeds the amount given off by automobiles, seems to be unsettled. Cows emit more from belching than by farting, which is interesting. Their farting gets a lot more air time. More entertainment value: Do cows pollute as much as cars? | HowStuffWorks

I like Bill Gates. So far, his wife and he have given away about $50B in philanthropy. Saw a short interview with him the other day in which he said that by the time he dies he hopes the he will have given away almost all of his fortune.

I think he is about as nerdy/dorky as they come, almost laughably so, but he seems to be doing his level best to be a good person, and to leave the world better than he found it. I admire, respect, and appreciate that.

(I do think the current title holder for world's richest human, Elon Musk, is a lot more entertaining, if not as nice a guy!)

Hmm, Maybe it's time for a rerun of that all time classic, "Cows with Guns!"

While my leanings and Bill's leanings don't always align I give him credit as he didn't get to where he is by being dumb.

Listening to Gates go on reminded me of Al Gore and all of his talk about greenhouse gases while he galavanted around the world in a jumbo jet. The airline industry is probably the number one polluter when you add up all the numbers, I refuse to fly anywhere for any reason. At least the little Swedish gal does it right by sailing, one could get nasty and ask if they use a holding tank while at sea...most dump overboard outside local waters. The Navy used to dumb their garbage overboard with lead ingots to make it sink.

I guess the Buffalo hunters were actually doing the planet a favor by exterminating the flatulent beasts. Maybe we should erect monuments to them and revere their forethought.

AND- I would suggest keeping your cows in the barn instead of the garage. They really mess up a garage.
However, if you do spend 4 hours in the barn with your cows with all the doors and windows closed, don't be surprised when people start talkin!

Ya, well I got a pretty big shop and I could handle 4 hours with a cow, just put down some of the card board I use for target backing and I could give a rats rear what people think. In fact I got a big old hen that has been living in my shop most of the winter. The rest of the chickens had a lot of her feathers plucked out and it was, getting cold. She starts clucking as soon as I come in the door. I got more use for a lot of animals that I do for most people. Just sayin

The power grid in most states handles winter just fine. It appears there were some problems unique to Texas that caused the issue there.

There's no mystery there. For the most part, they are visionaries, the modern-day equivalents of Thomas Edison or the Wright Brothers...or Sam Colt, for that matter. They had a dream and pursued it, worked on it, busted their butts and risked everything they owned, to make it a reality. While it's entertaining to take things they say out of context and make jokes based on that, they're keenly intelligent people who wouldn't have made their fortunes without having a lot of common sense.

I'm not especially a fan of Gates, but fair is fair. He's not a rich guy who thinks he can pass for an intelligent scholar; he's an intelligent man who became rich because he worked hard and pursued his dream.

As onomea noted, Gates and his wife have given away about $50,000,000,000...I'd say he's put his money where his mouth is.

I know he bought a large ranch in the Centennial Valley outside Monida Montana around the turn of the century. IIRC the price was around $13 million dollars. One of the lineman I worked with figured it that with his net worth and our average annual income for him it was the equivalent of one of us spending $15 on lunch instead of $6 or $7. If he still has the ranch, out where little than cattle and wildlife grow, he is also a hypocrite.

From a recent newspaper article. Gates is the largest farmland owner in the U.S. Around 250,000 acres across multiple states. Over 20,000 acres in Nebraska.

Read up on your 19th and 20th century history and you will find food used as a much more effective weapon against the "masses" than guns and such. Joe

I'll take that bet - provided the car I am in is a Tesla! We may both still be alive after four hours, but I can guarantee I will smell better in the end...

Just remember, with all the money Bill Gates has the only thing he is truly an expert on is being rich!

Well, if the populous is worried about where their next meal will come from, they have less time to think about storming the castle.

I had a cousin that had his paychecks signed by Bill Gates, from everthing I have heard from him Gates is a hard working, driven guy. In the early years he took good care of all of his people and those that were smart and took stock options instead of money were well cared for and rewarded for their hard work.
I can't begrudge a guy with the ability to fly great equipment, I like to drive an old car. He and his wife are exemplary people when it comes to giving of their time and wealth, I dare anyone to match them, they would welcome it and the world would be a better place.

Soylent green mentioned in an earlier post: Heston made movie in '73. The gyst of it was by 2022 there'd be 3-4 people occupying every square yard on the planet. There's 330 million in this country which is roughly twice the population when I was born in '47. Fewer people means fewer cows to feed them. The answer is simple. Convince people to quit having sex.

If in all his infinite wisdom Mr. Gates could somehow find a process to harness this truly natural gas, he'd be onto the second coming of Microsoft.

I wish Bill Gates would just go back to work on software and computers and shut up about everything else.

The ability to write a big check does not infer special knowledge or insight. As for he being so smart he made billions selling perpetually flawed constantly outdated computer equipment. Yep he is smart alright he is ripping our heads off financially and now telling us how to live our lives. I better stop right now before I incur the wrath of the powers.
Time for him to retreat into his elitist world and shut up.
