Default A woman's view point.

Having just purchased Renaissance Wax, I proceed to go to town.

Some years back I had purchased a model 36 Ladysmith for my spouse. The application of Renaissance Wax and elbow grease had the little Smith sparkling.

I presented it to my spouse who said it was beautiful with the exception of the hammer and trigger. She wanted to know why they had ugly splotches on them.

I tried to explain case hardening to her. Somehow I don't think I convinced her.

Me? I'd love those splotches to cover the gun. But that's just me.

I'm with her. A little rubbing with a Birchwood Casey Lead Remover cloth will take care of that.

This was also all "splotchy", until it spent a few minutes with a Lead Away cloth.

Case coloring is one of those things you either like or don't. I happen to like them, but to each their own.

I like the honesty in her response though !

Get the hammer and trigger jeweled. She'll love you for it!

I seem to recall S&W releasing reproductions of their original classic revolvers which were fully case colored all over.

At the time, I didn't see why anyone would buy a reproduction when so many originals were available on the used market, but I can see how if a fully case colored revo is your thing, sure.

Those jeweled hammers, triggers and rifle bolts were popular in the 1950s, I think.

Mrs. Chukar is a bit more practical.
When I bring something home that tickles her fancy, she lays claim.
There is no discussion over the look of it or the this or that feature or the value. If it fits her hand, balances and points correctly that is all that matters.
There is no defense. She never questions the $’s I have in guns and no matter how many I bring home in a year she is always happy for my next “just had to have one” addition to the my dust collectors.
She has only nabbed 4 over 37 or so years of marriage and only requested one that was her choice.

I like color case in traditional places - S&W hammers/triggers, Winchester 1873 frames. Just doesn't look right to me on 1911s or S&W frames.

But whatever floats your boat.

As my Uncle Roy said, it's good that we don't all like the same things, or
everyone would want my woman.

I once knew a guy that said that and one of his friends said that if everybody was like me nobody would want her. Larry

As I understand it the jewelling is a good surface for retaining oil.

Can't say I like it on non MIM hammer & triggers but it might look good on the later items. Certainly look nicer than the scratched & worn black coating...

I just think it's great you both share the same hobby.

My wife grew up as the farmer's daughter and enjoys and shoots well.

I still need to buy her as an anniversary gift a Colt 1911 fully engraved, master engraved. We'll get to it one of these days, just busy; until then, good health and fortune to you and your family.
