Default Coffee

It has been a while since we had a coffee thread and I just felt like talking about the third most precious liquid (beer and sriracha being #1 and #2).

My needs are simple and ten years ago I settled on this as my daily fare:

I really like it. My day starts with three pieces of buttered wheat toast and a flagon of coffee. I generally take it with milk and sugar but I will occasionally change things up and use hazelnut creamer or a jigger of Bailey's or Jameson.

A forum member sent me some Black Rifle "Gunship" and now my love for my donut blend is on shaky grounds (pun intended).

So, what are some of your favorites as I now feel like experimenting. Online coffee reviews won't sway me nearly as much as hearing from the seasoned coffeeholics here.

TIA

I also have simple tastes. I take mine black and usually just have one large cup each morning.

My latest is pretty much anything in the Folgers 1850 lineup. The Pioneer and Trailblazer are probably my favorites.

Rusty,

I find your sophisticated language intimidating.

Three words in one post that I had to look up: sriracha, flagon, and jigger.

But then, what do I know, being a guy who drinks Folgers Instant

I've been drinking Salted Caramel coffee lately. I buy whole bean coffee and grind it up when I'm ready to make a pot.

I also bought a can with Chicory:

Kauai Coffee Company. Their garden isle variety. Hawaiian coffee is my favorite. But I gotta try some of that BRCC stuff. Might have to have 2 favorites. I like that they are veteran owned and 2A supporters.

My morning coffee recipe:

Find a cup. One with the S&W logo is preferred.

Fill it 1/2 full with water.

Put it in the microwave and nuke it for 1 minute 10 seconds.

Put one heaping teaspoon of instant coffee in the cup and stir. I don't care what brand - they all suck. The stuff that follows will help to kill the taste.

Add a packet of artificial sweetener. I like the yellow-packeted ones. Stir again.

Add some milk to about the 3/4 level in the cup.

Grab some Bailey's Irish cream or its Costco equivalent. I think they are the same, except Costco charges about 1/2 the cost of Bailey's. Fill the cup nearly to the brim with it and stir.

Go watch the morning news. This coffee will help alleviate the shock of everything that went on while you slept.

John

This has become my favorite when I'm in the mood for a dark roast bean coffee.

Otherwise, it's McCafe Breakfast Blend (light roast) that's private labeled by Keurig.

Years ago I sold a knife to a fellow collector, he felt I under-charged him, so he sent me 10 lbs of Peet's. It's been my staple for a long time and I've made a lot of converts over the years.

I pick up Wyoming-processed beans at a reasonable price from the mom 'n' pop grocery in Lander, Wyo. (photo)

My Lady gave a pound of a heavily chocolated coffee to me for Christmas, and when it ran low I blended the last of it (40%) with 40% of my standard and 20% of a really mild bean. Might be the best coffee I've ever made.

I only have a few cups each morning, and I like good coffee.

Default Abstain

I have no choice, but to abstain from that aromatic, tasteful, enjoyable, delightful, beverage. It acts as the most instantaneous, violent, super effective laxative, that I've ever tried. Now that I'm entering into my 90th., year, I'm no longer fleet of foot, enough to make it to the restroom, after drinking, fresh brewed Coffee. "Oh, well", "I may have to, make do, with a taste of good Bourbon".

I have a family member, long time Starbucks employee. We get 2Lb/mo of all the different beans. Some have exotic names: "Komodo Dragon, Siren's Blend etc", the best is their medium roast regular. Mixing dark with medium roast is the way to go. Joe

I drink Great Value House Blend in the morning. After lunch it's their Decaf. I drink at least 8 cups a day and I don't put anything in the cup but coffee. Larry

Try making "Cowboy Coffee", by boiling the grounds, it cooks off the acids and other stuff that triggers that reaction, and still leaves the full flavor behind.

I tried it, and it was the smoothest, most "civilized" cup of coffee I ever had.

The down side... I soon realized that my morning cup of coffee was the reason for my regularity, and I needed to switch back to my normal drip coffee to regain that benefit.

I've become a Caribou addict. It might be related to having the best staff in any coffee shop anywhere I've ever been in.

Regardless I really like their medium blend-Lakeshore. Need a cup every morning to start my day, good excuse to get out of the house on weekends too. They re-opened the inside a couple of weeks ago with about 50% seating so a couple of us catch up while enjoying the brew. Also the coffee cake is pretty damn tasty too lol.

I’m always down to try different coffees.

Current jam is Folger’s 1850 dark roast for Keurig pods.

I also do Bright N Early in the big bag (from sams) to put thru the drip machine.

Minimum 6 cups a day for me. Just coffee-nothing added.

Maxwell House brewed in my 4-cup Mr Coffee pot for me.

A little sugar and French Vanilla creamer and I'm happy.

Either Maxwell House or Folgers Classic. I can’t tell the difference.
A teaspoon of local honey, and a little of the cheap powdered creamer from Sam’s.
Drink half a pot every morning. Sometimes, in winter, another cup or two at night.

I make a pot of decaf every morning for my wife as she has acid reflux.
I can't stand it so I go to a local breakfast restaurant every morning and have 2 cups of there black fresh ground coffee .
I also go to socialize with several people I see daily.

Hi, my name is Krogen and I'm a .... homeroaster.

Yeah, really I'm a coffee snob. Once I started roasting it ruined me. Can't (won't?) go back to "ordinary" coffee. This afternoon I roasted some Java Wet Hulled Frinsa Estate. eh? Yep it's a mouthful. But it sure is tasty.

I like coffee and chicory and Cafe DuMond is one of my favorites. There are other coffee and chicory coffees that are just as good.

1-3 cups in the morning when at home, varies greatly when I am traveling. I am not attached to any specific brand or blend, regular or unleaded. I am constantly experimenting with different creamers, baileys, Kaluha, etc. Essentially coffee is more of a morning activity than anything else.

The bennies were all the coffee drinks we wanted while working and a free pound of beans every week. Needless to say, I was wired! Never really cared all that much for what they brewed in the store, my brew was better. Still buy the stuff, but usually only when on sale.

My wife like Starbucks Sumatra.

I drink Maxwell House Master Blend with milk and sugar.

The best cup of coffee I ever drank was on a cold, wet March Saturday in St Clair County, Alabama. A friend asked if a second friend and I would help rid his family farm of the beavers that damming up the creeks on the property and flooding the fields. Greg and I walked those fields along the creeks, wading them several times. Temps were in the 40s F, with rain. We were both carrying 1911s and M1 carbines.

After 3-4 hours of wet, we had seen no beavers. When we got back to the farmhouse, my buddy's momma made a hot pot of coffee. A couple of cups with sugar (she didn't have any milk or cream) were the nectar of the gods!

I am Mr. Ugly.. a Java addict- I was going O/S on leave at my folks house happy like slurping black coffee and cleaning guns before I went to peace time Korea.

The second day I got a mega migraine reminded me of the Arnold kid movie "It might be a tumor"- thought my head was going to explode.

My Mom said "oh we switched to decafe"

Beat feet to get a giant real coffee and a bag of real beans.!

Recovery was total..

Best coffee I ever had was Kona but the BX stopped stocking it.

Evil S.B's Komodo Dragon is now my poison mostly.

"Hot as Hades- Black as Sin"! Ala Balzac.

It has to be.

Except when I put some raw honey in it.

Tasty stuff that!
