Default Speaking of facebook...

... my bil posted on his fb account that he had been thinking of taking another cruise and he and his wife finally PULLED THE TRIGGER. He was given a warning for posting gun terminology.

That’s strange - I post actual gun stuff on Facebook all the time. Never had a warning. The picture below is my cover photo.

I’ll step aside and let all the I Hate Facebook people do their thing.

PS - this forum has a Facebook page with about 5,000 followers.

Well that IS curious. I have never been on it and don't know how it works but I do keep hearing things about some of the new restriction etc. Everything I'm hearing makes it seem like it's going anti gun/2A.

Anyway I know some have a use for it and that's fine. I don't. It has nothing to offer that I want or need.

I love the pic.

Default MySpace.

Anyone here remember that first big foray into what we call social media today?

Back in its day, it was a big thing....it ran its course and while still around, it is nowhere near what it once was and few people have even heard of it today.

Facebook is MySpace 2.0 in many ways. Its controversies seem to be increasing expedentially to the point I see its CEO eventually being forced out. It is already changing its name to distance itself from all this drama. Too little. Too late.

FB tends to kick people off for ANY reason that they can come up with at the time. Not just firearms, politics, or whatever...but ANYTHING.

It will be displaced by newer "social media" in the not too distant future. Google knows this. FB's CEO knows this. The people that work for it know this. It is not "if" but "when".

My suggestion if you like social media is this: "Be Patient; another one is just around the corner".

Don't count on it.

The users will move on to other, more newer social media down the road.

Well, first there was MY SPACE. Now there is FACEBOOK. It seems likely that it was a haven for the former MY SPACEer. So, would it not follow then that when FB goes down every one will go to the new thing? All the same people just hopping from one new thing to the next.

Saints preserve us.

Hmmmm. Oh well, I got all the social media I need right here. But I'll keep a lookout for the stampede

Evil eye with a wink perhaps. The people in power benefit from Facebook, so I don't see them wanting change.

Seventy percent of US adults use FaceBook daily. Of these, 70% use it daily.

10 facts about Americans and Facebook | Pew Research Center

What concerns me are the leaked/stolen FB internal documents that show that that FB knows that people spend more time clicking away on FB if they read stuff that makes them angry. Since more clicking away = more money for FB, FB's algorithms are designed to shovel more stuff to angry users to make them more angry.

And FB can, and does, sometimes, fine tune the algorithms so that if it looks like a society may be on the verge of exploding, they dial the outrage machine back, if they notice, and if they care.

Sometimes they notice and sometimes they don't; sometimes they care and sometimes they don't.

Not a good situation in my opinion.

I got permanently banned in the early days for having 2 identities. I lost my first login and created a second with same email. Violated terms of service and I figured I wasn't missing much.

For me, Facebook iis monumentally unnecessary, run by a megalomaniac, and offers me nothing I will ever need in my life. Luckily, my wife feels the same way.

I have both a personal and a business Facebook page. I post pictures of guns on the business page but prices are a big no-no. Same with ammo.
I have sold guns within an hour of posting the picture. Free advertising, why not?
The local microbrewery just down the road from me built their business on Facebook, now have distribution in 4 states.
Facebook is what you make it.

I closed my FB account about 5 years ago. A year or so back closed all amazon accounts. Small steps with an individual account.

Too many things I won't ever cotton to.

Last Saturday was youth hunting day in Maine, they give the kids first crack at the deer here. My old bosses family is a bunch of dedicated hunters. His son harvested a nice little four point buck. His wife posted a nice photo of the deer on Facebook. I commented nice rack and was promptly told to remove it by Facebook for not meeting community standards. I guess me and the Facebook community have different standards!

I couldn't have said it better. We don't do social media (yes, I know that technically this forum and others like it are social media but we all know what I mean) and never will.

I will be unhappy if FaceBook goes away. It is an important tool in my line of work. In today's world, one of the first things LEO's do in a case is issue an investigative subpoena to preserve the pages of victims and persons of interest. For my purposes, people just don't protect their privacy on FB, for whatever reason. Some make a reasonable effort, but what's still out there, combined with other tools at my disposable, often results in quick recovery . . .

My FB account got frozen (FB Jail) for 7 days because I posted this picture and it was found offensive and didn't meet their community guidelines.

Two of my friends posted the same picture the following day and nothing happened to them.

I think I'm on their watch list. 4th time this year.

Three days in FB jail for describing a Harley-Davidson as “butt jewelry”. FB content naziz said it was an anti-gay slur.

Not into FBook - Quite a few years ago I had a profile and the next thing you know I had people I really didn't want to interact with reaching out. So, I tried to delete it and found out you can't delete, only deactivate it. So, I deactivated it. I knew right away it wasn't for me. The wife loves it though.

I like Muss am a facebook stalker. Amazing what people post and it's there for the looking!! Really helps in messy divorce cases and convincing clients to plea. I mean you ain't got much of a defense for a 95.1 charge (firearm in possession of convicted felon) when your cvlient's homies post a poctire of him aiming a Glock at the camera. Or the best was the time a client was charged with bringing contraband into a penal institution and the evidence against him was a selfie taken of him in his jail cell and posted on facebook! Ya just can't make this stuff up!!

Not much new to see here. This is just another example of FB's computer algorhythm that picks up on keywords and automatically flags them without any human interaction or approval. Far too many people posting on FB to even remotely have human monitoring of their rules so they rely on computers that can't be programed to recognize idioms, humor, sarcasm or context.

People will complain they are too strict while others will complain they are not strict enough. Best just to ignore it and move on since there is no fix for it - and for those who do strongly insist that it be "fixed", I can reasonably reassure you that NOBODY will like their solution if they are forced to enact one!

I fixed my issues with Facebook.

I deleted my account 4-1/2 years ago and am better off without it.

I monitor FB because my mother, having discovered the medium in her 80s, posts a good morning message to the world. Lets me know she's up & active. After that I generally read Outdoor Life's daily list of "Greatest Deer Rifles" or "Classic American Doubles". Funny, they haven't been banned.

There are tons of gun pages and posts on FB. Any mention of personal sales will get nuked, though. A single dollar sign will get a page locked down.

Stores, though, can advertise guns for sale.

I don't have facebook on my phone, but check it a couple times a day on my PC.

In the past 4 days I sold my dads boat, Gibson Mastertone banjo, and his Martin D28 for my mom on FB marketplace.

I listed a double pedestal water bed with 12 drawers and a book case headboard that I've had for 40 years...I put a regular mattress in it years ago. Listed it on marketplace free and it was gone in less than 2 hours. I didn't think it would go that fast. Now I'm sleeping on my mattress on the floor because my new bed wont be here till maybe Nov 9th.

So FB does have some good features. I've posted a lot of things on there that should have got me banned for life, but I've always slipped thru.

Anyone tired of FB's fact check garbage and their Nazi Police, check out GAB.

I use FB, Twitter and Instagram to my benefit. Just like this forum, membership is not compulsory.

As others here have mentioned... they are what you make of them.

It seems some can and some can't. I've had a couple of posts pulled(deleted) Never shut down. I know of several businesses that were banned for a period of time, one being an ammo manufacturing business.
Would be curious what makes the difference.

Spending 20 hours a week in the heavily chlorinated pools in the North East, competitive swimming, I would often fall asleep with my face in my Spanish book while in class.
Hola
Colada
Burrito
No comprendo
That's all I remember from class.

Those were the pre-swim goggle days of the '50s thru mid '60s.
Pain and whiteouts.

When facebook first started they said I had to use my real name and not my pen names... SergeantViolin or Terry the Pirate.
Adios to that.

From FB today:

"As Facebook plans to go all in on the metaverse, a virtual-reality space where users can interact with each other in a computer-generated environment, the tech giant has announced it will take on a new name: Meta."

My local LGS has its own facebook page and lists gun prices pretty much every day. Also you can have conversations with them about when to pick up your gun or consignments, all done on the public side for all to see.

Do you have gun store included in your heading on your page?
Under his name it has place $ Gunstore
I could privately pm you if you would like the name on facebook.

The business page said Pawnshop, there were other categories that I had selected but didn't show. I edited it so Gunstore is what shows now. Thank you!

Here is an article on Facebook's problems, and why it is making this Meta move. Among the reasons, gotta do something new to keep and attract young people:

... The bleakest version of what Facebook might become in the next few years, if current trends hold — a Boomer-dominated sludge pit filled with cute animal videos and hyperpartisan garbage — is clearly not the kind of thing the company wants as its flagship product. (Mr. Zuckerberg explicitly endorsed a youth-focused strategy this week, saying that the company’s new focus was attracting and retaining young users.)...
