Yesterday we used our central air on fan only and when we needed some heat in the evening I reset to it heat and auto on the fan. No heat came on and you could not shut the fan off and it was blowing lots of cool air.
Our unit is in the attic so I had to get up into it far enough to unplug the unit. This
morning while laying in bed hating to face the cold house I for some reason remembered my repair man told me a long time ago,when you have a problem, unplug it and see if the computer straightens itself up before you call me.
Got up into the attic and plugged it back in and everything is working normal. You may have known to do this but if not, it is worth knowing.

Yet another example of far too much responsibility being placed in realm of the silicone diode, as Barry Corbin said in the film "WarGames".
My biggest pet peeve is NOT being able to get a kitchen stove, or other gas fired stove with a standing pilot light. At least you could use the damned thing during a power outage that way? But NOOOOOOOOO! One should always rely on having electricity, in order to be able to burn natural gas?

Don't you worry it will blink out again, on the coldest night of the year, a night that will take the promise of triple time to entice a repairman to venture out.
At least that is what usually happens to me.

When we built our present home I was able to get a gas (propane) fireplace from Heatilator that does not require electricity to start. Great item to have when there's a power failure in the middle of winter. At least one room is toasty warm.

I did that very thing with the DVD players in my computer today.

Unplug, reboot, plug in, reboot. Work perfect now.

Same deal with our Microwave. Went psycho, every touch pad turned the lights on and off and the thing beeped and flashed wierd alien symbols. Went shopping for a new one. Unpluged it twice, no good. Left it unplugged for a week, now works like new. Might be the bright lights at night and the anal probe had something to do with it, but hey, small sacrifice to be able to crisp bacon.

Hope you smoke alarms are operable!

Interesting you mention that. How many here can put their hands on a book of matches? Got any in the car? In your desk drawer? Didn't think so. Even non-smokers usually can find a lighter, someplace. But matches, particularly the strike anywhere kitchen kind are a thing of the past. As fewer and fewer people smoke cigarettes, and those who do usually use a lighter, something else has left our society.

Maybe for the better, it reduces litter significantly. Next time you pass an open ashtray, look in it. You'll see ashes, of course, and even cigarette butts. But its very rare to see a burned match. 50 years ago it was common.

my guess is your running on borrowed time on the heater, suspect the controll board is on its way out or some other bit.

mine did the same, made it last another month, then DEAD(well it could be fixed but not worth it), bought new Trane

Have you ever tried getting a gas control valve with an electrically driven thermocouple to open, without an ELECTRICAL SIGNAL so there is GAS at the burner, TOO light?
The standing pilot light only settles one of the problems (the one above). How about the mother boards that won't allow burner ignition or even gas flow, without the flue blower having run?
