Warranty calls
Got one of those calls trying to sell me a warranty. Not on my car, but the house. I told them I didn't need one as the old warranty was for 100,000 miles and the house hadn't even been driven 1. She was speechless. I told her to have a nice day and hung up smiling!

My response to the old "your warranty is expiring" scam is, "Oh? Which car (or house, or whatever)?
"You know... yours."
"I own four. Which one are you referring to?"
You can make this last forever, and they just get more and more flustered.

They were trying to sell me window about 6 months after we moved in the farmhouse in 1984. I explained to the young lady: "I live in a drafty farmhouse that has 29 windows! Aren't 29 drafty windows enough?"

I don't talk to those people. I'm not buying or donating so there is no point in conversing about it.

By chance I feel like answering one of those “ scam calls” ( phone tells me) I answer with, “ Joes plumbing, wheres your leak.” Immediate hang up on their end, lol.

I literally had warranty people tripping over themselves, including getting management on the phone and numerous callbacks (which I welcomed with glee), to offer me a warranty on my non-existent 1981 Chrysler Cordoba with 7300 miles on it. Those have rich corinthian leather, dontcha know.
Needless to say they stopped calling after that.

Why would anyone answer their phone when these scammers call and then waste time talking to them?

DONE THIS! Many times as a matter of fact. That is how I learned a great many "colorful metaphors" in Hindi.

I'm going with Rusty on this one. If I don't recognize the number or name, I just don't answer. I figure if it's important, they'll leave a message. If not, I haven't missed anything and I can get on with more important things in life.

Caller ID and answering machines are your friend.
If I don't know your name or number, I don't pick up.
99% of the time it's spam, scam, or political. The legit 1% will leave a message, and I'll call back.
Cell phone, same deal. Nice thing is that it recognizes potential spam.
I am on the phone all day with vendors and employees. The last thing I want to do is talk to a scammer/spammer/politico.

My favorite is when they leave a message and it goes like this: this call is for, name garbled, we are trying to reach you about, pick a legal problem, and if you call today the number is always very clear and understandable we can take care of this problem.
I have not called yet so that legal problem must have resolved itself LOL

Because generally the Caller ID shows the number, or very close to the number, of a friend or family member. Now, how they rig that is beyond my technical capabilities to explain, but they do. Last week, I got one call that ID'd as my mother -- it was not her but window salepeople. But when I called her later in the day she told me she was hesitant to answer because she'd had a scam call earlier that Caller ID said was from me.

No doubt a good reason to answer if you recognize the number, but certainly an exception to what is usual with these callers.

A friend had a spam call where his own number showed up in the caller ID.
He didn't tell me if he bought anything or not........

SCAM LIKELY will show up on caller ID if the number on your ID is actually sent from a different phone number

I uderstanding is now people are getting spam text messages. If I get
a spam call late in the day I go into are you the pizza delivery guy/gal
and are you going to get my 2 pizzas here in time for my supper. Don't
let them get me off the subject, I go into what kind I ordered and will
they still be warm when they get here. Scammers usually give up about\
that time.
