Am I really 70???
Had the big "70" birthday a couple of days ago. I always said if I ever made it to 70 everything else would just be gravy... I survived 11 days in the hospital late last summer {Liver and Gaul bladder issues, GB is now gone along with the damned stones also had a large kidney stone which hopefully will never return}.
But other than that... Mrs Lincoln, how did you like the play?
Actually now that I am fully recovered I feel great. At 5' 9" and 185# {just like it has said on my drivers license for the last 20 years} I am in pretty decent shape. Just finished hauling and stacking a half cord of Alligator Juniper and yes, hardwoods are heavy. Had to make 2 trips with my Honda Ridgeline {1,477# of payload} as the rear end sag with the bed full looked a lot like it did with 1,500# of gravel in it a couple of weeks ago. I'm guessing the total weight to have been around 2,100#.
I still enjoy riding my Can Am Spyder and the Rzr SXS, we tow one or the other behind our 24' Class C motorhome for too much fun on the road. We eat well, stay active and I do enjoy a Bourbon and or Brandy from time to time... oh wait, just look at the time. Cheers!

I said the same thing, 5 years ago. 😢
Don’t worry it’s all downhill from here.

Bofus. Yeah, I know I'm older than you are, but I had no choice in that.

I turned 72 last Friday, and said virtually the same thing to my wife this morning. "When my Grandpa was 72, he was an old man, I don't feel like an old man."
I still feel great and can do most everything that I want to.
Happy birthday and enjoy!

For me.......
It ain't such a big deal, I'll be 74 in a month and have more steel in me than I thought could be possible, but the head, body, digestive system all work fine I just wish someone would answer the bloody phone.

I'll be 70 in another five months or so. It is hard to believe.
After a serious cancer scare a few years ago, I've been living a lot healthier. Eating better. Drinking less. Lost weight. (Just too fat nowadays. No longer obese. ) Got a coupla — well, one and a half — new knees. Take long walks near daily.
I think I am healthier than I was ten years ago. Feel better, too. I'm enjoying life.

Congratulations!! I'm 73 and, like you, I'm still fairly active. I still haul and stack my own firewood, unload a couple tons of hay every two months and feel pretty good for the most part. Oh sure, I have a few aches and pains that I inherited from my young and foolish days, but still able to do the things I enjoy. I have had to promise Ms. Judy, however, to stay off young colts and mules and leave the horse breaking to someone younger. Oh well, I guess I can't have all the fun.

Seventy is next month for me. I'm so glad it's going to be all downhill now. That uphill climb was getting tiresome.

As a song says, "how old would you be if you didn't know the day you were born?" Keep on keeping on.

Would you believe 71?
Thanks to one and all for the kind thoughts.
Someone much wiser than me once noted that you are only as old as the woman you feel... that makes me 71.

As the ranks thin and my friends fall on either side, I feel like I am in Pickett's charge, but the Almighty still has us here for some reason. May we stay around long enough to learn what that is.

Never thought I would make it this far. I had 2 heart attacks in 2003 just after retiring from a 30 year police career and 2 stents later, thank God I'm still here. Last stress test, my heart repaired itself a little which never happens. I'll be 72 next month and do anything I want with no other metal in my body yet. I'm very lucky.

Bob Hope on aging
Some observatiions from someone who's BTDT.
ON TURNING 70
'I still chase women, but only downhill.'
ON TURNING 80
'That's the time of your life when even your birthday suit needs pressing.'
ON TURNING 90
'You know you're getting old when the candles cost more than the cake.'
ON TURNING 100
'I don't feel old. In fact, I don't feel anything until noon. Then it's time for my nap.'
ON GIVING UP HIS EARLY CAREER, BOXING
'I ruined my hands in the ring. The referee kept stepping on them.'
ON NEVER WINNING AN OSCAR
'Welcome to the Academy Awards, or as it's called at my home, 'Passover.'
ON GOLF
'Golf is my profession. Show business is just to pay the green fees.'
ON PRESIDENTS
'I have performed for 12 presidents but entertained only six.'
ON WHY HE CHOSE SHOWBIZ FOR HIS CAREER
'When I was born, the doctor said to my mother, Congratulations, you have an eight pound ham.'
ON RECEIVING THE CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL
'I feel very humble, but I think I have the strength of character to fight it.'
ON HIS FAMILY'S EARLY POVERTY
'Four of us slept in the one bed. When it got cold, mother threw on another brother.'
ON HIS SIX BROTHERS
'That's how I learned to dance. Waiting for the bathroom.'
ON HIS EARLY FAILURES
'I would not have had anything to eat if it wasn't for the stuff the audience threw at me.'
ON GOING TO HEAVEN
'I've done benefits for ALL religions.
I'd hate to blow the hereafter on a technicality.'

I hit 70 last June...Neither my dad nor father in law made it to 70, nor did my dad's father. I am the patriarch of the family now with no known adult males older than myself. Its kinda funny but everyone used to talk about 45 seeming old, or 50, then 60...65 with social security and all. 70 is the first birthday of the so called old years that actually felt like it...I feel 70. I broke my back back in 2001, prostate cancer in 2004, I continued working and generally felt OK. This is the first year that I've noticed the cold, never used to bother me at...I feel it now, sitting by the wood stove at the club is nicer. I hang with guys older than myself, I've heard all the getting oldisms for years and now I get it. It ain't for sissys.
I feel that its fair to say that attitude is everything. I've lived with daily pain since I was twenty two and nearly lost a foot in a motorcycle wreck, subsequent surgeries to repair damage to no avail ended many activities and job possibilities. A good attitude got me through that and through the rest of my life with other ailments, injuries, accidents, etc. Its all about keeping a positive mental attitude and giving positive thoughts avoiding negative thinking completely. Be careful what you wish for...

I'm 70 but in my mind I'm still 25. I can do most of the stuff I did then, only a lot slower and at some things a lot better.

You just reminded me that my cardiologist said that my blocked coronary artery developed "excellent collaterals" (aka self made bypasses of the blockage).

I'm 80 and still on my feet and can do a small amount of manual labor so I feel that I'm blessed. I remember the day that I was 63 and I thought that when I was young that 63 was old. I was right, 63 is old. My observations (for manual labor) are people from 50 on up that say they can still do things that they did in their youth were not much in their youth and if they say can can still do all they want to do are not wanting to do much. Good genes help...
OP here again... Evidently I come from the deep end of the gene pool. My dad made it to 92 and my uncle, his older brother just passed last week at 96 {at 93 my daughter introduced him to Farmers Only and was actually active on the site}. Mom went at 87 and I have a couple of aunts who lived longer than that.
Most of these folks were Michigan/Indiana farmers, definitely a hardy group. My uncles farm has been in the family for more than 160 years with both he and dad being born in the back bedroom.
