Another Wooden Boat Model
I finished up a model I have been working on since July, 2020. A fun waste of time non-the-less. It is a model of perhaps the last surviving mid 1800's American fishing vessel of this type, the Emma C. Berry. She is restored and on display at Mystic Harbor in Connecticut.
I built her as undergoing repairs earlier in her career.
This is my fourth completed boat build so for a change of pace I closed the shipyard for a while and started building a Ukulele today, hope that doesn't take over a year! I have never played or owned a musical instrument but building one looked like fun. I will probably be calling on Rusty for help!

Super nice boat.
Melville is smiling as well.
Looking forward to seeing that Uke.
Will be teaching the grandson the Batman theme to play on an inexpensive Hilo uke that was gifted to us.
Put on some old open Grovers, so it stays in tune, and will wood burn the Batman logo on the back.
He's getting close to five.
Might need to retune his Kalimba for the Batman Boogie.
Baby fox playing the high notes on a keyboard to annoy the foxhounds.

Looks like it could be a Friendship Sloop. They are Cutters, but were called Sloops. With the top mast fitted, they carried 5 sails. Beautiful to see sailing "fully dressed".
Several of my family were commercial fisherman, in West Coast Trollers. I used to work on my dads boat in the Summer, as a "boat puller". Someone who runs the boat so the fisherman can do his thing in the cockpit. This was in the early 1960's.
I have an interest in the old working sail boats, mostly in the New England region. Also, the Grand Banks Schooners.
Anyhow, thats a fine looking model. My Cape Dory 30' sloop came with a half model. An old tradition.

I figure once I finish it it may take a couple of months of practice to play like one of my favorite performers the late Willie K.

I enlarged those pics and have been studying them. The detail is astounding.
That belongs in a nautical museum.
Bloody well done indeed.

Willie plays a great slide uke on Stormy Monday, so ..... with your skills and talents you might blow glass and make a large Coricidin bottle to put the boat in for display.
Here's a template.

I’ve been lucky enough to see photos of several of John’s builds in progress. He won’t admit it, but he is a true craftsman. Another build well done.
Thanks for sharing.

To me the best filming and
depiction of schooners was
in the movie
"The World in His Arms."
The race/contest is just
surpreme.
As a kid I used to build
model sailing ships but never
got around to doing one
"plank" by "plank." Did a
few solid hulled wood ones and
also the Revell plastic ones.

Very impressive! You have skills and patience beyond normal. Do you have these model’s displayed in you house?
Would like to see a picture of them all.

Excellent boat building ! I really like that one. Ever try building a bigger boat? Guy behind my grandmother was building one for 20 years. It made the paper when he moved it out with a crane and huge flatbed trailer!

Beautiful. Anyone in Ohio, or anywhere for that matter, should visit the Warther Museum in Dover, Ohio. I met Ernest Warther during a field trip in the fifth grade. His carvings are awesome.

Thanks! A couple of other threads about two previous builds if you are interested. The models are sitting around covered in plastic sheets. The need to be cased but cases are frightfully expensive so I'm thinking when the warm weather arrives in spring I might build some. If nothing else the boats will make excellent kindling for a fireplace.

Dimensions are about 27" in length and about 25" from keel to top of mast.

Thank you all for the gracious comments. I don't consider myself a craftsman, just a slightly advanced wood butcher. If anyone has any interest in a start to finish build log I did on another site send me a PM and I will provide a link.
