I would have to disagree. Many locally owned/state banks are every bit as good as a credit union. In fact, the only place that ever refused me a loan was a military credit union. The banks to avoid are the big ones based in NYC and NC.

If you ever want to upset a banker all you need to do is utter the words Credit Union... I was eating lunch with three Bank Presidents when I did that and nearly had to use a Heimlich maneuver.

I deal with a local credit union and Navy Federal.

Most CU are allowed to expand their field of membership to include anyone living or working within the CU's area. I believe this includes Federal as well as state chartered CU's.

Disagree all you want. I sat on the board of a CU and was in fact chairman for a number of years. CU's offer better rates, lower and fewer penalties and better service. And yes, they even beat state/locally owned banks.

Banks are in business to pay dividends to owners, aka stock holders. CU's are non-profits who return dividends to their members in a number of ways. One bad experience at a CU does not paint them all bad.

About 20 years ago I knew a lady who was a clerk at one of BOA's main branches. She told me that the bank treats customers like poop and the employees even worse. She had plenty of stories to back up those claims.
I'll never do business with them.

They're going to mail me a "certified copy", whatever the hell that is. What really irritates me is they didn't tell me. I found out by calling customer service and listening to the automated system. I then called back and after a very long wait, was able to get a real person.
It's the same policy at every bank now.

Can't deposit cash without an ID.

The upside of not having much money is that the odds of having a bad bank transaction drop significantly if you rarely go into one.

Nope. Primarily cash business, so I know of that which I speak. I hate these unfounded limited experience general claims, but there’s plenty of them on the interweb. No ID required at my bank. My ATM will take cash up to 50 bills at a whack, which is $5,000 in Benjamins. If I’m depositing through a teller, gotta put my DOB on the deposit slip . . .

Well, you paid it off today, so I’m guessing that’s no longer an issue . . .

Mrs QD67 and I have a B of A credit card. We got it when we got engaged in 1992, I forget who the original bank was at the time, but over time it ended up being B of A.
We had the card hacked 2 weeks ago. And I can say I was very happy with the fraud department. We didn't get stuck with "Susan" in India. The one woman was in TN, and when we had to call again, the other woman was in TX.
They removed the fraud charges promptly, and sent letters saying as much.
I can't speak for B of A's actual bank branches (most of them closed around Scranton anyway), but I'm happy with their credit card services.
