Around these parts this is the official french fry dip.

If you want to make your own:
1 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon dill pickle relish
1 tablespoon pickle juice
1 dash salt
1 dash garlic powder

When I was a wee lad every home had a mayonnaise "churn" and you made your own mayo. As we got modernized we started to buy the ready made kind at the grocery store. A friend of ours moved here to Florida and couldn't find Dukes mayo so she spoke to the manager of the supermarket she was in. The next time she went in to the store they were carrying it. We have no trouble finding it now.

I'm very familiar with Kewpie mayo. Tastes pretty good. Hey, it's mayo!

But, why it really stands apart from all comers, in my view, is that it comes in a soft, squeeze bottle container. It is a breeze to squeeze out exactly how much you want, and because the bottle is soft, you can get pretty much all of it out, unlike the harder but squeezable mayo containers I have encountered and buy from grocery shelves in the US.

Easy to cut in half, too, with kitchen shears when you want to scoop out the final spoonful or two.

We buy it at the Japanese supermarket locally, if we remember, or off amazon, if we get around to it, but use the US stuff also.

But it's the Kewpie container that makes a difference, in my view.

Then again, I am probably a mayo gourmand rather than a mayo gourmet. (Or maybe a mayo trencherman. I like the stuff!)

Growing up in our house it was Helman's Mayo & Guldens Mustard (Spicey Brown). No other brand was allowed. I still follow that today

I live on tomato sandwiches in the summer time and they are not good if a jar of Dukes is not part of the makings. Love Dukes, nothing else does it for me.

Nothing wrong with Hellmann's or Duke's but we here like the tang of the cider vinegar with no sugar.
Pretty much Duke's for 5 or 6 years now.

I agree, along with Ranch Dressing (Grossest thing to ever come out of a jar/bottle, IMHO), sour cream, and tartar sauce. Throw in most other condiments, too. I don't even understand how anyone can stand any of them. The smell of Ranch just nauseates me. My late mother ate a lot of it, and I used to just dread making her a salad, as she always wanted Ranch on it. On an empty stomach I would gag from the smell most of the time. Yikes!

Mayo on French Fries is almost like gravy on French Fries, 2 things I learned when working in Il, Oh, and Pa. back years ago. Plants I installed, serviced and repaired machine tools in had cafeterias which had Very Good food. Millwrights and machine repairmen I worked with got me to try both, love it. Got all kinds of strange looks when back home( in the South) when ordered gravy on Fries and always ask for mayo for Fries with a sandwich.

Strolling along our riverfront this afternoon, I noticed a new historical marker to Mrs. Duke, across from the building that was used by her company.

They also embedded a plaque into the concrete threshold of the footbridge next to the former Duke building, honoring Mrs. Duke by naming the bridge after her.

Well, tried the Duke's mayo.

It's okay, but nothing to write home about. Very mild, I thought.

Default Dukes

We moved from the south to the inland northwest and have a case of Dukes shipped to us twice a year.
I will not eat any other mayonnaise. It’s that good, y’all.

Good on you for giving it a shot. Some folks wouldn't have. Can't ask more than that.

I like mayo, so I tried Dukes also, good, little different. Maybe its the paprika and no sugar. I wont be changing though, twice the cholesterol and more fat just not worth it for me.

I tried the trick of putting a dollop of Helmans in my scrambled eggs. It didn't quite work out - I guess I didn't beat the mixture well enough. The mayo was a bit gelatinous, instead of incorporating into the mixture I got eggs with little chunks of mayo.

Everytime we shop for mayo all I get is Helmans. My wife gets miracle whip. Guess what jar gets opened first. The Miracle whip stays unopened and gets tossed after that. Sure would like to taste some Duke's though. Helmans gets put on just about anything. Frank

Thumbs up Can't find Dukes?

I order mine on Amazon. Less expensive & I don't have to go get it.
