...can't ever remember a time when I didn't carry a pocket knife...
Have been carrying the same Victorinox Craftsaman SAK since 1995...had been carrying a Grand Prix model before that which I gave to my aunt while we were on a bicycle trip....it was my second one of those I think...
Can't understand how one can be prepared for daily life without one...

I’ve carried a pocket knife in one form or another since I was old enough to open the blades. In the 50’s I carried a little one blade knife that was about an nah long. I had several. In the 60’s I carried a Puma all through high school and a Boker or Hen & Rooster in college. In the late 70’s and 80’s I carried a large Victorinox Swiss Army nice in a sheath. Today I carry a small Gerber clip knife in my watch pocket. Still have the knives I regularly carried through my younger years.

When I was a kid every boy carried a pocket knife and matches. Some of the sissies even carried combs. Plenty of room left in your pockets for some coinage if you were lucky enough to have some.
I was 5 or 6 when my old man bought me a pair of boots that had a pouch for a pocket knife. That was the thing back in 55. Knife that came in boots was junk. OM bought me a Tree Brand for in the boots. I’ve been very good at keeping things like that but that one got away.

Last year my wife and I did a guided bus tour of Ireland and Scotland. Had to take the ferry from Londonderry to Scotland.
Guide warned us there was a possibility security at the ferry terminal would pick six people to search, so if we had any “contraband”, get rid of it.
So who was one of the six? Yep, me.
Pulled the camera out of my camera bag, dropped my 3” offender in the bottom, then camera back in the bag.
Security looked in the bag but never pulled the camera out and my wife, the offender and I finished the trip uneventfully.

I have daily carried some version of a Swiss Army knife for over 70 years now. My wife always thought I was nuts but one day on a cruise her glasses became loose and dropped out a lens while she was getting ready for dinner and I managed to put it back in and screw it tight with the small screwdriver I had in the coil of my Swiss army knife's corkscrew.Since that day she was a believer.

My dad gave me my first pocket knife in early grade school, can't remember exactly when. I still have it. A small pocket folder with two blades and the bigger one says "Moormans" on it (we used to farm). I'll never forget when he pulled it out of his own pocket, looked at me and stated "you'll need this". I must have been beaming with pride! Anyway, carried that all the way through H.S. Nobody back then gave it a second thought. It was a tool first and foremost.
Nowadays I carry a Leatherman on my belt, have for the last 30 years or so. One the handiest "tools" I've ever carried...

I normally have two.
My wife jokes that just because my cargo shorts have umpteen-jillion pockets doesn’t mean I need a knife for every one of them.

Cannot remember ever not having a knife on me since I was probably 8 or so.
Tried the Swiss Army things. Too bulky and I had little use for the gadgets in them.
My girls used to be embarrassed of me having my clip knife wherever we went. “Dad your are such a dinosaur! Nobody carries a knife anymore!” Poor little dears eventually figured the old man could care less what “everybody else” was doing. Now they all have a knife they carry every day and two of them carry sidearms daily, little dinosaurs anyways.
I have been carrying an auto opener for the last 15+ years. Once I got started on them I could not go back to a manual opening knife for EDC. All my truck and tackle box knives are manual open. All of my hunting knives are fixed blades.

I’m lucky enough to be in jeans/tshirt mode about 95% of the time. Because of a few stories from a few seasoned instructor buds (see’ers of the elephant, each of them) when the subject of weapon retention came up, I generally wear around my neck on a bit of 275 cord, a Becker Knife And Tool BK12 aka, “Becker Necker” or a wicked little Kershaw that I got so long ago that I can’t remember its model name.
The reason being that the first time each of these guys had run into situations on the job where they were wrestling to keep their guns, their EDC knives were on their strong sides. No way they were going to be able to get to their knives with their opposite hands while their gun hands were tied up holding onto their pistols.
They all agreed that at the time, they’d have loved to have been able to access a second blade with their weak-side hand to end the issue sooner. After those first incidents, they each began carrying a second knife on their non-dominant side for any reason that you may need a knife but your dominant hand is otherwise occupied.
I, myself, am extremely right-handed. I prefer fixed blades but for practicality, I carry folders (larger-size CRKT M-16’s are my favorite). But fumbling with a folder with my left hand while my right hand is fighting to retain my pistol is just not an option. I decided that the ability to reach under my tshirt with my left hand and yank a small fixed-blade from an upside down sheath is a very handy thing. Of course, under a buttoned-down and tucked in situation, it’s rather pointless.
Lord, I’m so sorry to be so windy!
Just curious if anyone else wears, or has thought about wearing a neck knife.

I did for awhile, never found if overly convenient, and gave up on it after awhile. I've found a fixed blade carried at 12 o'clock horizontally is wonderful though. You can access with either hand.

Just the other day a friend and I were talking about the utility of a pocket knife to cut a steak when the wait staff fail to deliver a steaks knife. Last night it came in handy again:
I actually have two Benchmade Hidden canyon knives. The newer version has a slightly thinner and slightly longer blade than the older version, along with a minor change in the handle. The thinner blade is a little more practical.
I sheaths are made by Armatus Carry and with the Ulti-clip, they carry very nicely in a front pocket for easy one handed access.

IDK, a red head that I used to work with told me one time that her dad gave her some advice about guys who carry knives. You can always trust a guy who carries a knife for everyone to see. She was young and pretty hot. YMMV.

I carry one one a regular basis. Either a Kershaw Speedsafe, Benchmade Griptillian or this little Camillus EDC3 I’m carrying today...

My father always carried a jack knife. In fact, when he died it was the only thing I wanted. Still have it in my dresser top drawer.

Yes, but not exactly what you had in mind. Although I have that covered too.
I carry one of the little Swiss Army Knives with the toothpick and tweezers around my neck. It's at one end of a shoe lace and a Surefire Sidekick is at the other. Both get used several times a day. It seems like I'm often sitting down when I need one of those two, and not having to squirm around to get to a pocket is nice.
As for your point, yes, I carry a Karambit on my "wrong side".

When I read this thread I checked my pockets and was carrying these two:
Should cover most knifely needs in an average day.

One or the other, depending on what I'm wearing or if I was working or not.

Why? Believe it or not, there are people, LIKE ME, who cannot put a good edge on any knife. I've invested in countless sharpening tools, and stones, but I do more damage than anything else. I finally accepted the fact that if I wanted a sharp blade, I would let someone more competent than me do the task. My hunting knives have never been subjected to my torture ordeal - the knife shop is their best friend.

I'm going to say this again.
There are several different guided sharpeners that will allow you to put a decent edge on your knives.
I was horrible at sharpening knives until I bought a $30 Worksharp Guided Field Sharpener.

My father taught me to sharpen a knife. The thing is back in the dark ages all knife blades were hollow ground from the spine to the edge.

The “ craze “ has not subsided. And for good reason.
The one-handed opening feature with pocket clips are possibly the best advancements in pocket knives in a hundred years.
I carry a Swiss Army knife in my left-front pocket and a Benchmade Mini-Griptilian lockblade with pocket clip in my right-front pocket.

Over the years, I have carried many pocket knives: Swiss Army Knives, Bucks, Cases, Schrades, Bokers.
Which one did I like the best? All of them.
