Does any one have an idea of how long it might take to get the application paperwork from the ATF?
I sent an electronic request for the paperwork back in January and haven't received or heard any thing...I was wondering if this is a "normal" time frame or if it was lost in the shuffle and should re-request it?
Thanks!

Heh - that would be two of us. I'm expecting they are as backed-up as everything else gun-related at the moment, and even though no one is talking about it, I'm betting the demand for C&Rs is way up too.

You're talking about the initial application, not the actual license, right?
Mine took ~2 weeks, but I suspect that there may be a recent upswing of applications to accompany the upswing of everything else gun-related.
OTOH it took ~2 months to get the actual license. I'm told that there's considerable geographical variation because they're processed by regional subcontractors, rather than coming from a central location like the applications do.

There is a downloadable form on the old CRUFFLER.com site that I used many years ago.
Scan down to where it says"departments" and find the section on becoming cruffler. Good reading and downloadable stuff.

The form is on there but can anyone who has recently filled out the form tell me if that is a current form on the cruffler website? I wonder if the form is outdated.

The form on "Cruffler" is NOT the current form. It is several years out of date.
You can also call the ATF and ask them to send you the application.

It was current circa last August. I sent mine in after filling them out from the web. I got the license about two months later even after a FUBAR on my part of not filling in my VISA number. (It's a $30 fee.)
It is hard to get a hold of a person in the Georgia office, where at least California licenses are issued from. (But I believe that they are all issued from Georgia no matter which state you reside.)

I wonder if you could pick up an application at your local ATF office?

Local ATF offices should have copies, but a couple years ago when I got mine, the local office had outdated forms so I had to do it twice. Be sure you have the current form, and that you send a copy to your "Local Chief Law Enforcement Officer".

Got my forms after about 6 wks. Plan to send in tomorrow.
Is there any downside to having C&R license, i.e., are you subject to ATF inspections or hassles? If you do get the license, do you get on any mailing lists of suppliers who give discounts? Just wondering, thanks.

Nvgunner, in answer to your questions:
Yes...........and............no.
Seriously, I've had a C&R for probably about fifteen years. I've never had any questions from the BATF. Just keep your stuff in order and you should never have a problem.
As to the second question. If you are interested in receiving mailings and flyers from companys that have C&R firearms as well as ammo for sale, you be sure to contact them and send a signed photocopy of your license.
Also, Midway and Brownells give dealer discounts to holders of C&Rs that send them a copy.

Thanks much. I mailed it in, will wait to hear. Any tips on
"bound book" procedures to stay out of trouble? Are the
instructions they give w/ the license clear enough--any
pitfalls? Thanks.
