Shark Bait, glad your wife got to check this one off the list, and also kudos to you for supporting her desire to do so.

Wow, she is a brave woman. I have a couple hundred free falls and I must tell you this. As you go through the stages of training as a student, to eventually be cleared off instruction, the first time you reach terminal velocity, stable face to earth at 190 feet per second, it is a rush you will never forget.
To reach stable terminal velocity on the very first jump is hard to grasp. Tell her I said well done, most impressive.

Good for her as thats what she wanted. Regular Army had a saying about things that fall out of the sky. Good friend was in 82nd and tried to get me to join but was on pistol team. Only thing falling around me was 45 brass, lol.

That's on my bucket list, at the bottom. That way I get to do the other stuff in case my chute doesn't open.
My oldest daughter did a tandem jump when she was 23, over Playa del Carmen, Mexico. She worked for a cruise line and did it on a shore excursion. They jumped from 10,500, and landed on the beach.

My wife ordered the video. We should have it in about a week. When their chute opened at about 6000 feet we could hear it on the ground. I also heard her let out shreek with the quick deceleration from 120 mph to 15 fps.

Good for her! The plane would need to be burning, with one wing gone, and a dead pilot before I'd bail.

Any plane I would jump out of would need a crew of 17. The pilot, co-pilot, navigator and 14 guys to push me out.

Also at Bragg another “ friend” asked if I would jump in his buddies uniform shirt with his name on it so his buddy could get his jump pay, his buddy was on leave. Yea, right….think I had 60 days left in the Army.

First jump almost 60 years ago in school at Benning. Didn’t mind jumping every month but always got air-sick. 101st Airborne.

My son, who**™s uncomfortable climbing a (any!) ladder, surprised us a couple of years ago when turning 30**¦ said he wanted to skydive.
He did a tandem jump at a very popular location here on Long Island Skydive Long Island™ '|' Skydiving NYC and Long Island, NY and absolutely loved every second of it.
If he was to go again, I**™ll probably join in**¦ (not sure he**™d go again though, being a dad and all now!)

Back in the 70's and early 80's I'd have jumped from a plane if someone dared me to.

What was wrong with the airplane for your wife to decide to jump?
P.S. when jumping, if the chute doesn't open flap your arms real fast, you just might learn to fly before you reach the ground.

In my early 20s I took a 3 or 4 or hour class in Clinton, Ok and then jumped out of the plane solo. I remember sitting in that class and I knew in short time I would be walking towards the door of an airplane to step outside and the "pucker factor" was off the scale. We get on the plane and it was an old rattle trap with ripped up seats and electrical tape and zip ties where holding things together in the cockpit. I remember stepping through the door and holding on to the strut of the high wing while we were flying about 95 mph thinking what the hell am I doing? When he yelled "GO" I remember jumping and it seemed like time was suspended as I was falling then the chute opened and I didn't even feel it. On TV it looks like the person get jerked up when the chute opens but that's really just the camera man still free falling. It was so pleasant and relaxing floating down and I was pulling on the risers to guide myself to our target bullseye and I missed it by only about 20 feet. The mistake I made was that they told you to always keep your eyes on the horizon and bend your knees when you land. I was cocky and looked at the ground right before I landed and it looked like I was coming down extremely FAST! So I tensed my legs and hurt my knee a little when I landed. It was a rush but I would probably do it tandem if doing it again because of my age and they use a type of chute that can give you a very soft landing.
