There is a very good reason they did this-
Bidders were being contacted by scam artists.
In my last run of auctions, several of the high bidders on auctions that were STILL RUNNING were contacted by scammers posing as me. The scammer said he was willing to take their current high bid for the gun. One guy smelled a rat, and played along, asking how to pay. The guy wanted the money sent to the UK! He asked how he would get the gun if he was in the UK, and the guy never answered.
It happened to several guys, so I actually added a warning to my later auctios:
"BEWARE of scam emails! I DO NOT offer to end auctions early, so I will NOT be contacting you till you WIN the auction. You can SEE who I am and my contact info on the auction page AFTER the auction!"
Check it out here- the 5th paragraph in the text:
GB Auction
I get MULTIPLE phishing emails every day that I run auctions on ebay and GB. They appear to come from PayPal, ebay, and GB. They always say something is WRONG! Login here to straighten the problem out before your account is frozen! Hurry- give us your data!
If you get an email alert about your account, and you want to check your account,
go in through the site itself, NOT through the email. In other words, login to ebay or Paypal, or GB, and check it there.
Be careful out there.
