New York Sportsmen to be Required to Apply for Ammo?
New legislation in New York, Assembly Bill 6433, would require anyone purchasing rifle or shotgun ammunition to complete an application for the purchase. The bill requires sportsmen to register their full name, date of birth, address the caliber, make, model and manufacturer’s name and serial number of the firearm for which the ammunition is purchased every time they purchase ammunition.
The bill, introduced by Assemblywoman Vivian E. Cook (D-Queens) doesn’t stop there. It also prohibits anyone less than twenty one years of age from purchasing ammunition.
Though technically referring to “bullets” throughout the bill, a review of New York law shows that there is no clear distinction between the definitions of “bullets” and other types of ammunition. Consequently, all ammunition must be considered a possible target of this legislation.
AB 6433 has been referred to the Codes Committee.
”This is a direct attack on law-abiding sportsmen and gun owners and should be opposed,” says USSA senior vice president, Rick Story. ”It is difficult to understate the chilling effect on New York sportsmen AB 6433 would have if it were to pass. New York sportsmen must contact their state assembly members in opposition to this terrible legislation.”
Take Action! New York sportsmen should contact their assemblypersons and today. Let them know you strongly oppose AB 6433. Tell them it will do nothing to address problems with crime; instead it opens up otherwise law-abiding sportsmen and gun owners to further regulation.
Start writing and calling, this seems to be a daily thing these days.
