I brought up the book "Gold Dust And Gunsmoke" by John Boessenecker in another thread. This is a great book about California Violence during the gold rush period. It covers duels, lawmen, gunfighters, etc. A favorite duel seemed to be two guys facing each other at extreme close range with .31 Colt pocket pistols. This author pops up alot on Wild West Tech. I know you all think us Californians just sit in our hot tubs drinking wine, eating cheese and granola and play footsy with our domestics partners. Well, OK. That might be absolutly true. Except for me, of course. I'm like the Omega Man out here. Holed up in my bunker with my wife. Only venturing out during the day. But It wasn't always that way. I'm proud to say Ca. was more bloody and violent than alot of other western states. But how many westerns are set in California? So, if you come across this book, take a look at the chapters. It's fun for me to go to downtown Sacramento and stand right where a bloody gun battle happened involving dozens of shooters. Makes the OK Corral look like a little scuffle.
