I seem to be much better with a long gun.
This is after a couple hours plinking with some turn of the century .22s, Then to the 50' range.
14-2 from 67
Pre 17 55
34 68
22/32 22
And the model 38 from the early 80s'
I did okay, But not too good.
Is you shooting way better than mine?
It's bothersome that these fine Smith and Wesson hand guns cant be fired better than this by me!
I have lots of fun anyway! ! ! ! !
Targets are from standing. 50' two hands, Single action (embarrassing)
OH well,,,, It was loads of fun!
Peter.

Sir, IMHO your pictured groups are nothing to be ashamed of. I often see people shooting washtub-size "groups" at 7 yards at the local ranges.
FWIW, under the conditions you describe (50 feet, SA, standing), I usually am doing well to keep six shots inside 2 inches. Occasionally I'll shoot a smaller group than that with my K-22, but usually they're bigger. They're bigger still with heavier guns like .357s and .45s.
Front sight, trigger control, and don't take too long to shoot.
Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.
Ron H.

Dosen't look to me that you have anything to be ashamed of. And, as a bonus, you had fun!

I picked up 500 targets for something like 5 bucks, Seemed about the same as paper plates that I usually use.
As the targets show, I do well with the .22s, even the 34,, But not so good with the .38s.
Outer circle is 6"
Inner most \ and going outwards
1.5"/3"/4.5"/6"
I hope this makes it better!
Peter.

I'd be happy with those targets at 50'. Every day practice is the only way I've been able to improve. When I don't shoot almost daily, my added skill soon leaves.

I do not get a chance to shoot as much as I would like to. And as a result, I will tire after a number of rounds resulting in my groups opening up.
So, if I am checking the accuracy of a particular gun, I try to shoot it first if I will be shooting several different guns.
Heavy blast and recoil tends to wear me down quicker than the lighter stuff, but the concentration on target, sights, hold, breathing, etc, is work as well.
Your groups look fine, and will improve if you have the opportunity to practice.

That is why I like to shoot from a rest.
It makes me look like a good shooter.
Practice make a lot of difference. Years ago when I could shoot a couple times a week, I could put 6 shots into a paper plate at 100yds with a 6" model 19 firing .38 wadcutter reloads from a rest.
Now I have problems seeing the paper plate at 100 yds. and I get to shoot about once a month.
At least I know that the Model 19 can do it even if I can not these days.
I did shoot a group under 3" at 50 yds with a 8 3/8" model 27 from a sandbag. This was about a month ago. I was using 125 JHP over 8.4gr Unique. I have found this to be an accurate load for the 27.

Snap caps (expended brass for .22s) and dry fire (on a range) always have muzzle pointed in safe direction. Use your trigger pull to keep the front sight on target. Call your shots-that way you will keep your eyes open and concentrate on the sights and target. There are alot of excellent books out there on he subject. When I scatter shots I know why-I get worn out-or my concentration is messed up-then its time to quit for the day. I think its much more important that you are safe-you can always practice the skills-but one unsafe act is a non-starter.

WOW!
Your groups are HUGH!!
I remember when I shot as bad as you years ago.
My groups at 100 yards are waaay smaller than yours AT 50'
If you want to shoot smaller groups ,,,
Follow my advice.
It shrunk my groups down first time I tried it.
Instead of shooting 5 round groups at 50',25yds,and 50 yds.
Just try shooting one round groups!
Why the first time I tried it I was shooting groups under 1/2" at 100 yards with my 44mag. !
Remember ,every round fired after the first round just increases your chances to shoot bigger groups.
Don't waste ammo--shoot one round groups and brag about your shooting.
