I took this as an opportunity to again write my Representatives. This is what I sent (probably too long):
"It has come to my attention that the Department of Defense has issued a directive that bans the sale of military brass to ammunition re-manufacturers. New Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service (DRMS) requirements call for the "mutilation of shell casings". Mutilation, incidentally, is the destruction of the property "to the extent that prevents its reuse or reconstruction". Until now used military brass cartridge cases have been sold to re-manufacturers who re-use the brass to manufacture "new" ammunition. One such "re-manufacturer" is Georgia Arms ( www.georgia-arms.com) a significant supplier of .223 and .308 caliber ammunition to both the civilian recreational market as well as to law enforcement. This ruling will substantially impact their business and will lead to layoffs involving half of their 60 employees.
More importantly this clearly represents another assault on our Second Amendment rights and I respectfully urge you in the strongest possible terms to oppose this change.
Thank you,"
Hopefully they will read them.

"Yep, son, we have met the enemy and he is us"
Hundreds of thousands, maybe millions sat the last one out..."Nope, son, it ain't gonna happen, not in our lifetime"... and we continue to shake our heads, stump our feet, rant and act as if all of this is going to do any good. No, "they" are not going to read all or any of our letters, but as I keep saying and repeating, numbers count. What "they" get is a note from their underlings saying something like "so far we have received one million letters, and counting - the message basically is ' the natives are restless, very unhappy' and they are not in the mood for more of our chinannigans"... believe me, we keep on bombarding them with our messages of concern and anger, and "they" will get the message. Stop blaming others for what is happening, WE are letting it happen!!!
Pete

I am going to email, phone, and send a snail-mail letter to my Congress Critters. Mine actually have a pretty good pro-gun record, even Sanford Bishop. He is a liberal, and his record isn't as good as Chambliss and Isakson, but he does know which side his bread is buttered on in relation to the Second Amendment. Here is my letter.
Dear Senator Chambliss:
There is a rumor circulating on various internet sites that DRMS (Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service) has adopted a requirement that surplus fired military shell casings be “mutilated” rather than sold as surplus to ammunition remanufacturers. This rumor is apparently true.
I think this is a “back door” attempt by the Obama Administration to further limit individual’s Second Amendment rights in a non-legislative manner. It is also an example of more government waste. There is an extra expense in mutilating the shell casings, and the end product is worth much less than the shell casings.
I ask you, Senator Isakson, and the rest of the Georgia Congressional Delegation to bring whatever influence you have to bear against the DRMS, DOD, and Obama Administration to reverse this decision.
Those who oppose this should not be dismissed as paramilitary extremists or anti-government. Many of us who don’t use any of the ammunition that will be directly affected are opposed to this on principle, and for the practical reason that it will eventually impact all ammunition prices and availability.
Thank you for your continued support of sportsmen and gun owners.

FrankD45,
I hope you don't mind, but your letter was so short and to the point, that I copied and pasted it, put my name on the bottom and sent it off to my Senator.
Well done!

Your comment is not stupid Bill - and you are right, why aren't more folks not alarmed and outraged enough to make more "noise". We need to be counted folks, this is serious stuff... or are you waiting for the men in black to take your guns?

I am from Ga as well and let both senators know I didn't appreciate them supporting Eric Holders nomination for Attorney General. Never heard back from either one but now am getting regular fund raising letters.

This is just another assault on the law biding hunters and recreational shooters. With the Federal Welfare oozing to the lazy and undeserving as well as Coorperate Welfare we are on the fast track to socialism and civil unrest. It is obvious that the powers that be want to make it as hard as possible for us to enjoy our chosen sport and recreation and limit our ability to defend ourselves if need be...God Please Bless America......Mike

I'm ok on ammo & components, but you can bet I'm borrowing from the above posts and will write our guys in Washington. I'll be forwarding the info to a lot of folks. Thanks for starting the thread.

One win at a time....keep writing, calling and emailing, that is the only way to be heard.
Also make sure you spread the word to everyone you can, many people don't belong to forums and don't know about these things.

As I've said time-and-again, numbers do count. Do keep it up, every time the monster rears his ugly head, soot it down with your emails, faxes, phone calls and/or letters.
