A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'

The one I rember was that a Ranger was packing a 1911 cocked and locked and someone asked if it was dangerous to carry it with the hammer back. He looked em in the eye and said, yup!

My favorite Ranger quote is from Ranger Captain William J. McDonald. The story survives in many versions, but in all an impending riot leads to a call for Rangers. Ranger McDonald arrives, and when asked where are the others, he answers "there's only one riot."

Not to step on your post, but the way I heard it years ago was, when asked if the cocked and locked 1911 wasn't dangerous the reply was: "If it wasn't dangerous I wouldn't carry it!"

Wasn't it a Texas Ranger who when asked "Are you carrying that gun because you expect trouble?" Replied: "No Maam, if I was expecting trouble I would be carrying a rifle."
If it wasn't a Ranger, it should have been !

I heard that one as well. In the version I heard the grip safety and been modified so that it didn't function.

The Ranger with the modified Colt 1911 was
Ranger Charlie Miller.
He carried the 1911 on half-cock with a piece
of leather tired around the grip safety to de-activate it.
He carried the gun Mexican carry close to the front of his trousers.
When confronted by a new DPS range officer he asked..."Ranger Miller isn't that gun dangerous"
Miller replyed "Hell yes son, or I would not be wearin it"
Some of the better quotes came from persons about the Rangers.
John Wesley Hardin comes ro mind when the Rangers arrested him on a train in Florida.
Soon as he spotted the Rangers he yelled "Texas, By God" and was quickly arrested.
My fav is when Capt McDonald was sent to quell a riot in Brownsville Texas...Black soldiers were stationed there and they got crossways with the citizenship and lit-up a few.
After McDonald raided the soldiers camp a black soldier was interviewd by a reporter...
The soldier stated "Capt McDonald would charge hell with a bucket of water"...
