I'm considering going to the blade show in Atlanta this weekend.
I was invited by some friends that trade on some very collectible high end knives.
I never have been a "knife nut," but it might be interesting.

Leave your credit cards home! Blades are as addictive as guns.

It is worth going to, especially if going with experienced collectors. You will see knives there you would never see in a lifetime of local gun and knife shows. I am very disappointed that a conflict came up or I'd be there.

I went once back in the mid-1990's, turned into a darned expensive trip!
But I did meet some real icons of the bladesmithing community and thoroughly enjoyed the unbelievable eye-candy.

I'm still amazed that some knives go for more than pistols...my practical side tells me it's just a flat piece of metal that has a handle and a sharp edge, but I must admit I own several custom made blades.
Still not sure what the draw is...maybe it's man's second most basic tool?

I went yesterday and came back today after the Tony Bose drawing this afternoon.
I couldn't tell that the economy was having any effect on the high end custom knife makers. The serious collectors buy on Thursday night, so the average knife nut doesn't really get a chance at the better knives.
With deliveries from top name makers running three to eight years (some no longer take orders), the aftermarket pricing is worse than registered magnums

Nordic is one of the top cutlery dealers in the country and their annual show in Solvang is one of the better ones(although a lot smaller than Atlanta Blade). That store was founded by Randall Knives historian Bob Gaddis and passed on to the Harveys who run it today.

I just got my first true "custom" knife, it was made in 1996, # 1 of 1, by a guy named D. Gracely.
Don't know anything about it ( came in a trade deal ) , but if anyone is interested in it, let me know !!!
