This quiz is fun, but I scored at the bottom ... Bet GatorFarmer maxes out.

How Tactical Are You?

The rules are as follows:
You start out at zero points.
Visualize your carry gun, and start adding or subtracting points according to the list below.
Your results are at the bottom of the test.

1. Polymer frame: +2

2. Light rail: +2

3. Laser (guide rod or rail mounted): +2

4. Chambered in a caliber invented after 1990: +2
(add another +1 if the caliber name contains a three-letter acronym)

5. High capacity (>10 rounds): +2

6. “Tactical” engraved or rollmarked anywhere: +3

7. Official current issue of a major SWAT team or SPECOPS unit: +3
(add another +1 if the manufacturer advertising of the gun includes this information as a selling point)

8. Mentioned by VPC/Brady as a “cop killer”, “pocket rocket”, or “destructive device”: +2

9. Product name contains the letter “X”: +2
(add another +1 if it contains the word “extreme”, “xtreme”, or any variation thereof)

10. Fits into 50% of the stocked holsters in any given gunshop: +2

11. Used by 50% or more of 18-25 year olds on the range at any given time: +2

12. Advertising includes ludicrous torture tests, like freezing the gun for a year before boiling it in saltwater and shooting it while submerged in mud: +2

13. Advertising slogan that implies uncompromising perfection or any variant thereof: +1

14. Not magazine-fed: -3

15. No plastic, MIM, titanium, scandium or alloy anywhere in or on the gun: -3

16. Steel frame: -2

17. No provisions for a laser, flashlight, optical sight or weather station: -2

18. Designed before 1980: -2

19. Designed before 1900: -3

20. Gloss blue finish: -2

21. Bright nickel finish: -3

22. Capable of grip/grip panel removal: -2

23. Wood grips: -2

24. Used by 50% or more of the 50+ olds on the range at any given time: -2

25. Chambered in a caliber that started life as a blackpowder cartridge: -4

If You Scored:

21 to 30: You are undoubtedly among the black nylon-clad tactical elite, a killing machine who gets allergic reactions to clothing that doesn’t have a logo related to your carry gun on it. You have Blackhawk on speed dial, and carbon fiber excites you in indecent ways.

11 to 20: You’re a tactical apprentice, ready to be fitted for wall-climbing boots and duct-taped trauma plate. You consistently spell the brand name of your favorite gun in ALL CAPS on discussion boards.

1 to 10: You’re a gun rag lemming and marketing victim with hope for redemption if exposed to enough blued steel and walnut. Buy a four-inch S&W Model 19 and call me in the morning.

-1 to -10: Old-fashioned and/or slightly behind the curve. You still think of the Beretta 92F or the Walther P38 as examples of modern gun design, and you still load your carry piece with FMJ because you don’t trust those newfangled Super-Vels.

-11 to -20: You’re probably a single-action shooter who thinks that the newfangled DA revolvers are “a lazy man’s gun.”

-21 to -30: You’re hopelessly untactical–you probably don’t trust percussion locks over the old trusty flintlock.

Well, if we're going by what's currently strapped to my side then I scored a whopping ZERO.

This nearly invalidates the scoring all by itself. Using a rack holster for a serious carry gun isn't tactical, IMO. Who would spend thousands of $$ on gun, ammo, sights and all that stuff and then carry it in a one-size-fitss all holster?

Not bad, only scored -20, unless .38 special was designed as a black powder cartrige originally.

I,m sure this is an advertisment for someone. I think tactical is or should be based on other things. Oh I forgot, Maybe it depends on ones mood. I scored 13 for one gun I carry Daylight hours, laughed to hard to subtract for night carry.

My revolver came in at -23.
I greatly improved my score with the 1911. All the way up to -15.

That's ok. I never really thought of myself as being anywhere near "Tactial" anyway.
But I'll bet my old non-tactical weapons will kill the bad guy just as dead.

Yeah, it was, so your score goes to -24. I guess you better give up.

Similar to Iggy's train of thought, I have long believed that semi-auto rifles and pistols are a passing fad.

Apparently I'm a lot more "tacti-cool" than a lot of you. I scored -12. Unless you don't consider that a 640-1 is a re-design from the 640. Then I guess it could be -14. I am wearing camo shorts with cool tactical pockets on the legs, though.

M&P 9 mm - +6 - unless the removable backstrap counts as a removable grip

640-3 - what I generally carry - -14, since it wears Pachmeyrs

Registered Magnum - -18 with those old walnut thingies on it - it's blued, so it loses out to

Model 29-3 - -19 because it's nickel

I have put the Registered Magnum in my pocket, just to see if it fit - it's got a 4 inch barrel.

I'd have to use a shoulder holster or something for the Model 29, its barrel is 8 3/8s.

The 29 is old school tactical, from when Clint Eastwood was a bit younger.

So, I'm really "conflicted" now. I was thinking if a got one of those popular (Bruce Willis in Last Man Standing) Double Shoulder Rigs for 1911's and two ankle rigs for a J-Frames, I'd score something like this:
1911 #1 -10 points
1911 #2 -10 points
2 J-Frame - 8 points
Total -28 points

That's a lot a iron; add on a few extra mags and speed loaders and you're pretty well set; ok, grab a Surefire. And as the Boy Scouts say, "Be Prepared" Real prepared in this case. Well, tough Beaners; no offense to our Southern friends, but I'll take a -28 anytime over a fat recycled plastic palm-filler, remeniscent of those "Buck Rogers Blasters" I watched on the Black & White in the 50's. So, How do I really feel? +100

Now SmithNut, it says it FITS in them, not that you actually would condescend to USE one these holsters.

If we're going to take this seriously, we have to parse each word with great care!

Tactical what’s tactical? What’s an Operator? Match Grade what is this? High speed low drag no not even forty plus years ago but I do understand the pucker factor.
