Anybody prefer the pistol grip stocks to the regular stocks for a defense shotgun? I'm talking about the full stock with pistol grip, not the pistol grip only stock.

Depends on the shotgun. Remington, Winchester ,etc which have the safety on the trigger guard work just fine with a pistol grip stock. If you like the pistol grip stock, go for it.
Mossbergs, however, mount the safety on the top rear of the reciever and can be difficult to operate with a pistol grip. Personally, I prefer the Mossberg as the safety falls naturally under my thumb. My 590 has a standard stock and I'm not about to change.

I've shot too many quail with my Remingtons not to want to bring it to my shoulder. I don't even have to think about where the safety is when it comes up. I can't see the pistol grip helping, it would slow the process. Just practice a lot with your shotgun whatever you decide.

and was surprised at how well it felt. Using the A2 stock with the hangrip gives me the ability to pull it tighter into my shoulder. It also seems to swing easier than my Winchester 1300 defender.

I wouldn't go out of my way to put one on a shotgun that doesn't have one, but I sure wouldn't take it off if it was there.

I like the full stock with pistol grip. Helps me balance better.

I do not like pistol grips on a HD shotgun. To me it is a tacticool thing that serves no purpose. If you need to hold the shotgun down and back, you have a much easier time with the straight stocked gun. With your trigger hand at your hip, the straight stock just naturally slides rearward and you do not have to bend your wrist at an awkward angle. To hip-shoot one with a pistol grip, the shotguns trigger guard would have to be well forward of your hip. Controlability is just one reason that I prefer a traditional stock. I guess I just got very comfortable with them over the years.

A standard P/G's only real advantage is less overall length. The loss of control in recoil isn't worth the slight advantage in only a few scenario's to me? A collapsible A2 type (Knoxx now makes one with a recoil absorbing system) is a far better choice than a standard P/G IMHO. It has a P/G and reduces OAL, W/O losing all of the butt stock. I've tried fixed standard, A2, and standard P/G. The regular P/G would be a distant 3rd choice for me now.

I have tried the PG thing and found that it offers nothing that I want. Other's opinions may vary.

I haven't gotten into the PGs with the stock. For me, I'd rather a normal stock or a plain pistol grip.. haven't found an advantage to the PG w/ stock yet. JMO

I feel you have less control over a PG stock than you do a "normal" stock. I don't want to play SWAT, just protect myself.

The whole pistol grip thing on a home defense shotgun is pure BS. Doesn't add a thing, and can detract.

Before I purchased an HD shotgun, I went on the net and read everything available. The consensus of opinion from those in the know were forget the pistol grip. It's the whole "tacticool" thing which only appeals to teenagers and mall ninjas! Should you ever have to use the thing for home defense, you will wish that your shotgun looks like grampa's duck gun instead of something with every kind of accessory hanging off of it.

A folding stock could be OK to reduce overall length for storage but the pistol grip does not add a thing.

The good old-fashioned "standard" wood stock is, I believe, the best option. It works well, is good for control, and, if all else fails, one can deliver a powerful butt-stroke to the head with one. The new toy stocks may look "mean," but they don't offer the flexibility in deploying the weapon that the "old-fashioned" stocks do.
