On Showtime Sat night is the second Strikeforce event (first one was in April) (Strikeforce has taken over the defunct Pro Elite). What a card:

Scottrade Center – St. Louis, MO
Saturday, June 6, 2009 – 9:00PM (CST)

MAIN CARD (BEGINNING AT 9:00PM - CT):

Robbie Lawler (16-4) vs. Jake Shields (22-4-1) – 3X5 – 185Lbs

This is a major fight. Lawler and Shields are both Top 10 world ranked in their weight clasess.

Lawler has been ranked as high as number 4 in the world at Middleweight and Sheilds has been ranked around numbers 6 or 7 at Welterweight. Most of the rest of the Top 10 in both classes are all in the UFC.

Lawler was the Elite Middleweight Champ and Shield was the Elite Welterweight Champ. Shields moves to 185 for this fight. I really like both guys and it is hard to pick but I got to take Lawler.

Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski (15-6) vs. Brett “The Grim” Rogers (9-0) 3X5

Rogers is impressive but he is not Top 10. AA is. I got to take AA.

Nick “Bad Boy” Diaz (19-7) vs. Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith (16-5) – 3X5

What a war this will be! I'm rooting for Smith. Classy guy. Diaz is a punk.

Phil “New York Bad Ass” Baroni (13-10) vs. Joe “Diesel” Riggs (29-10) – 3X5 – 185Lbs

Riggs should win.

Kevin “Monster” Randleman (17-12) vs. Mike Whitehead (23-7) – 3X5 – 205Lbs

I'm picking Whitehead.

On Sunday night is a great WEC Card:

Date: Jun-7-2009 9:00 PM ET
Event Type: Versus - Live Event
Location: ARCO Arena, CA

Mike Brown Vs. Urijah Faber

Name: Mike Brown

Record: 21-4-0

Name: Urijah Faber
Height: 5' 6" (168 cm)
Weight: 145 (66 kg)
Record: 22-2-0

This is a super fight for the title. I'm picking Mike Brown.

Jose Aldo Vs. Cub Swanson

Name: Jose Aldo
Height: 5' 7" (170 cm)
Weight: 145 (66 kg)
Record: 14-1-0

Name: Cub Swanson
Height: 5' 7" (170 cm)

Record: 13-2-0

I'm taking Aldo.

Donald Cerrone Vs. James Krause

Name: Donald Cerrone
Height: 6' 0" (183 cm)
Weight: 155 (70 kg)
Record: 9-1-0, 1 NC

Name: James Krause
Height: 6' 2" (188 cm)
Weight: 155 (70 kg)
Record: 10-10-0

Taking Donald Cerrone.

Josh Grispi Vs. Jens Pulver

Name: Josh Grispi
Height: 5' 11" (180 cm)
Weight: 145 (66 kg)
Record: 12-1-0

Name: Jens Pulver
Height: 5' 7" (170 cm)
Weight: 145 (66 kg)
Record: 22-11-1

I'm rooting for Jens in this one.

Manny Gamburyan Vs. John Franchi

Name: Manny Gamburyan
Height: 5' 5" (165 cm)
Weight: 145 (66 kg)
Record: 10-5-0

Name: John Franchi
Height: 5' 6" (168 cm)
Weight: 145 (66 kg)

Manny G should win this one.

Are you kidding??? The MMA is the most exciting sport out there.I'll never watch boxing again after seeing my first MMA match.Who wants to watch a bunch of sissies wearing gloves "fight" when they can watch a real fight that is about as brutal as it gets. Those guys won't let a little blood stop them.My wife hates it and doesn't stay in the room when it's on,I can't stop watching once it's on!!!

"MMA is the most exciting sport out there"

Could not agree more. How long have you been a fan? Do you watch other MMA events besides the UFC?

I've been watching about 3 years.I haven't been to a live match yet but I am looking forward to seeing one.
I can't believe we're the only ones on here to comment on the MMA.If you haven't seen any MMA on t.v. you need to make a point of finding it,I promise you will never look at boxing the same way!!!

"I can't believe we're the only ones on here to comment on the MMA."

Same here. There are usually quite a few MMA fans joining in on the discussion. For example:

We watch it up here in North Dakota. They put UFC events on, free in a couple local watering holes, so we attend sometimes. I started watching back when Ken Shramrock was around, seen Liddell get beaten up; Rampage. Was a match a bit ago, of unbeatens; missed that one. On the same card was the 2 Matts, and Cera got beat; I liked that result. We even have a few local events. And Brock Lesnar is even from this area.

Nick Diaz is a punk but man he is one tough dude but smith has cannon balls in his gloves. Mike brown will beat Faber again love the California Kid but Brown is too strong and smart to get whomped. Now Im more excited for Wanderlei silva VS Rich Franklin at UFC 99 Ive always been an Axe murderer fan

my bad animalmother...I just now saw this thread. Man, you are on the ball! This might just be the best few months of MMA ever. Tons of shows with stacked cards...life is good. I have already started planning a day-long watch party for UFC 100.

Obviously we're all MMA fans here, but does anyone here actually train? I'd bet that there are a bunch of S&W forum members that can really fight.

Now I don't follow MMA nearly as much as some other guys but did some UFC fighters lose their contracts or can they fight for other companies and the UFC?

"UFC fighters lose their contracts or can they fight for other companies and the UFC?"

Many who part with the UFC end up fighting for someone else. However, those under UFC contract cannot fight for anyone else. If you are signed to the UFC, you fight exclusively for the UFC.

So, who caught the fights? Two excellent cards that lived up to the hype. Brown vs. Faber was one of the best fights I've ever seen.

Default Brown vs Faber

That was an excellent fight, I think Brown is now the new man at 145, Faber broke his hand on Browns head. When Brown hits someone on the head they go down, to bad about Jens he might be all done.
