Default How you know when guns have become an obsession

Last night I awoke in the middle of a wonderful dream. I had gone into my favorite gun store (a marvelous, well stocked emporium of firearms and ammo, which exists only in this dream) and found a NIB Ruger Speed Six 9 mm revolver for $250! I awoke just as the store owner (this time, a real person, and very nice in real life) was calling in for the Brady Act stuff. I awoke thinking that I had actually bought this gun, for which I have been looking for a long time. My only regret is that I am dreaming about Rugers (of which I have only two) and not Smiths (of which I have way too many, according to my wife).

HA! Yeah I've dreamed about buying guns too... usually after I've been thinking about getting one for a while.

Luckily (for my wallet) I haven't had the urge to buy anything in a while.

It is simple....
They become an obsession when you have to buy one just to buy one.
Otherwise you can need another safe, Not have any more room, Have more than you can count, This is all okay,,, But when you walk out of a gun shop with a non functioning ROHM .22 just because you could not leave the shop without a gun, Then and only then is there an issue!~~~~~~ SIMPLE~~~~~~~

I need a second safe now. I am fighting a disease now called CGD, (Compulsive Gunbroker Disorder) and I think I am losing.

My wife says I can't buy anymore guns until I have a place to store them!

I am literally running out of space. Now that is a problem!

Not necessarily an obsession... merely a matter of priority.

For example, I'm about to PCS from VA to a certain Southern state. What did I pack first? Yup. Carefully swathed in Bore-Stores, packed in Pelican cases and on the high-value inventory. Nothin' obsessive 'bout that. Nope. Nada. Nosirree!

"Yes, dear, I know we budgeted $1500 for the new gun safe I bought yesterday. But when I went to pick it up today, they had that sweet little M&P15 that has your name written all over it for only $1400." Yes, dear, I understand that tonight's dreaming will be done on the couch."
Pleasant dreams jeffrey.

There is no such thing as being gun obsessive, there are only unreasonable wives, government officials, nosey mother in laws etc. because you never know when 'they' will come and survive all the rounds you put out of the first 256 guns and you need just ONE MORE to do the job, just ONE MORE.....this week.....lol

When you buy ammo for guns you don't have, when you buy a gun to fit a holster that you have but nothing that fits, when you can put 98 guns in a Browning "17 Gun Easy-Out",when you sell a gun because you want to replenish your "fun money" and buy two more the same week, when you cash a money order you receive for payment and buy another one at the same time to pay for the gun you bought while waiting on the first money order, when you buy six sets of grips and four holsters for one gun, when you buy twenty magazines for one gun, etc, etc, etc.

Default Not a Dream

Maybe,
If you use a firearms as a paperweights on your desk, or

You have a guns as part of your home décor, or

You have matching gun and trouser belts that also match your boot leather, or

You have special guns for special occasions, like BBQs, Church, work or just lounging around the house.

You nick name grandchildren after your favorite gun makers, or

You have a gun name or caliber in your screen name, oh

Why do I keep seein’ my reflection in this monitor?
I gotta go turn the steaks on the grill…

Su Amigo,
Dave

P.S. Got handles on grill tools made from ol’ Colt SAA grip frames,

I've recently done an inventory on firearms, magazines for said, powder, primers, brass etc. I have found brass for firearms I've never owned, such as .38 S&W, .45 Schofield, .351 Win., .30-40 Krag, 300 Win Mag, etc.
I have between 5K - 10k of primers in each type, even LRifle Magnum, which I do not even have a rifle to load them for.
After adding up the total $$ in magazines on hand for the AR's, AK, STG, Thompson's, Berreta's, Rugers et al, if i had to replace them at today's prices it would run me close to $6,000.
I have over 16,000 rounds of ammo stored in a 12'x12' room, ammo for which I have no guns included.
I think when you get to the point of needing another safe (already have 2) just to lock up your investment in ammo and magazines, not to mention all the grips/stocks I have, that it is time to face the fact that one is an obsessive gun person.
I think I need to work on getting some guns for the unused ammo....

You are a very hateful person!

I have taken the first step and admitted I have a problem so I gave my screen name what I did. That's as far as my 12 steps is going.

I often run into the problem where I forget what guns I actually have. I'll sometimes make a list at night in order to lull myself to sleep. Sort of like counting sleep. Until I get the nagging feeling that I'm forgetting one or two that is.

Oh boy, am I in trouble! So buying ammo for guns I don't have is yet another sign of my "problem?" I have about 1,000 rounds of 9 mm for just whenever I happen to buy another 9 mm (don't quite have one at the moment). And of course I have brass for guns in calibers I don't own -- it's to give away to friends that I haven't yet met.

More than two or three of any model, barrel length and finish is obsessive. Up to that, it's just a belief that "Proper Prior Planning Prevents P***-Poor Performance."
