The first & third ideas are the correct ones.
Be patient. Someone will come forward with one.

Patience is a virtue many have none of. If you are already giving up on finding one it will likely show up tomorrow when you are not looking. Keep at Gunbroker and keep an eye on the forum and one will show up.

It took looking for over a year at the Forum and the auction sites for me to find a Mountain Gun in .45 ACP. A couple turned up, but I was too slow in reading the ads.
It was well worth the wait.

They are pretty much collector's items. The best one to look for, in my opinion, is the 625-6, which was in .45 Colt, and the last one offered without the dreaded "lock hole". I looked for a long time to find one. Here's a pic of mine, modified with an earlier thumb release, Ahrends grips, an action job by Nelson Ford and a red ramp front sight. To my mind, this is the perfect trail gun. If you want to settle for one with the lock, they are more plentiful.

Check the Sig forum
I think I just saw one for sale on the Sig forum a few minutes ago. Check out the classifieds there.
