Question Value help/opinions please

I am preparing to trade an old model Ruger Blackhawk, 6 1/2" barrel, .357 mag, made in 1966 and, to my not very expert eye, 95 approaching 98% condition (just some very slight muzzle/cyllinder wear and virtually no turn ring). No box or papers. It has not been redone by the factory. I was saving it to send to Bowen or someone but don't believe I'll go that route now.
My blue book is old (27th) and says $375 in 98%.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

You are looking at two different values that are very far apart. The Blue Book value (retail) is generally a value that, if you are fortunate, someone will give you but don't count on it. The other value you mentioned was "trading" it in. A dealer will only give you about half the real value to them (or what they can sell it for) whether trading or just taking it in to sell. So, I would guess if you take it to a dealer you would be looking at around $150. Always get best value when selling to a private party.

Thanks pointman. Guess I need to be a bit more specific. Usually when I trade with my LGS, I can figure he'll look to make about $50 on it. So, my question should be - has the blure book value changed much since the 27th edition? and is there anything new with the old models since they are getting somewhat more scarce?

Howdy Jd.

I have the 28th edition, and it show 98% at $400 and 60% at $130. Off the top of my head, I would say you should be able to get $225-$275 for it if you sell it yourself. I am just guessing at that price, as that is about what I would pay for a used old model .357 blackhawk in very good to excellent condition.

Default Blue Book

My FFL has the 30th Edition which he said is the latest. It lists a 642 at 100% to be worth $425. Have seen them for more on this forum and much higher in gun shops. I would add $50 to 100 on older Blue Book prices, but I am no expert as I probably have gotten burned a couple of times already and also got a couple of good deals as well.

That 3 screw Ruger is sought after by the single action crowd. The two screw Vaquero is popular, but in stock form that early Blackhawk is favored. I have one that some one spent a bunch of money on removing the ajustable sights to make it look like a Colt. I'm sure I can find you a trade if you really want to part with it.

Thank you much, gents. Ecam, I have a deal all set and just want to get some realistic prices to start me out. Really the choice is to trade it or keep it stashed if I can't do well enough. You guys have all been here before
