Thats the title of the book I began reading today, it is about the 7th Infantry Regiment from 1812 to WWII. It is volume two in this series I read the first one a year or so ago.

The 7th Infantry is one of the oldest regiments still serving in the Army today. I waited for this book to come out as I served with the scout platoon of 3/7 Inf as an M60 gunner when we rode on the backs of the old M151 jeep.


So far the book is great it starts out withe the battle of new Orleans.

I have finished the book today, so i have read both volumes on the Cottonbalers and as I already knew they were the first unit into Berchestgarten, not the 101st. I served in the 502nd Infantry of that Division and I am proud of being in both of them. but Mr. Ambrose made a mistake and HBO carried it on.

The 3rd ID along with the 7th Infantry Regiment is now serving overseas may God bless them and keep them safe as awell as all the other service members in harms way.

I have a very good book written by a local author about his time as a medic with the 7th during WW2. His book shows him at Hitlers hilltop pad. I had him autograph it for me and he said "you know we were the 1st ones there but the 101 had better press coverage" I highly recommend this book http://www.wordassociation.com/combatmedic/index.htm

Sounds like a great book. I am gonna have to look for it next time I get to town. After reading your post when I got to the part where you wrote about the battle of new orleans. I could not help to hum the ol Johnny Horton tune. If you like history and historic battles you will enjoy the book titled Carnage and Culture,Land mark battles of the West. Great book.
