"Public Enemies" movie guns
In case anyone cares, here's a site for the guns used in film "Public Enemies."
I wondered in another thread if .38 Supers would be shown but currently no blanks
are made in that caliber, so .45s were used and in one case 9mm to represent
a modified .38 Super Colt with fitted Thompson foregrip and extended magazine
along with a Cutts compensator.

Thanks for the link. Interesting history on the gangster guns. I won't be seeing the movie, from the preview, looks like a bunch of glossy hollywood fantasy ****.

Not so much. Dillinger was known to be flamboyant, jumping over counters and leaning on an officer during a press interview while in custody. He was a "rock star" at the time.

Unless it's grievous in terms of totally fabricating things known to positively never have happened and ridiculous depictions of guns and handling, I try to take the attitude that it's a movie and it's supposed to be entertainment. If I want to watch a documentary I'll turn on the History Channel.
I enjoy accuracy in the flicks as much or more than anyone, but I saw the movie and my only gripe was Depp's portrayal of Dillinger as a misunderstood product of his upbringing instead of a sociopath. And it seems to be fashionable these days to portray the FBI then to be as much bad guys as the crooks.
No doubt, law enforcement officers of the past ( and still in a lot of places in the country) had to be bigger, stronger, and meaner to overcome the ones they were tasked to bring to heel.
I would expect a little of that from the likes of Johnny Depp, but it kind of disappoints from Michael Mann.
On a scale of 10, I gave it a 5 for historical and timeline accuracy, I gave it 7 or better for the story and the action, 5 or less on character development and accuracy. The need to 'humanize' and make a sympathetic character out of someone who would take a Thompson sub gun into a bank and on the streets to take down cops may be necessary to "sell" the movie, but at least to me it does a dis-service to the truth about such people.
But then again, it's a movie . . .

I am looking forward to seeing the movie. I don't care about anything but being entertained when I watch a movie like this. As said above, if I want historical correctness, I will watch a documentary!
I posted this on a couple of other forums, so I thought I would post it here as well. This looks like it will be a hoot!
Well, we are about to take the dive and start our own "Zoot Shooting" Club. We have been in contact with the founders, and will be having our first Zoot Shoot in July. It looks like it will be a blast. I think this discipline is gonna be a big hit. You can be "The Untouchables" or a member of Capones gang, and anything else from the 20s and 30s.
Open this link, and click on "Home" on the left side of the page. Turn on your speakers and enjoy!

Our first match is scheduled for July 18th!
PS, Tommy Guns are ultra-cool!

Yeah, but it would be nice to see a reasonably accurate movie for a change. The truth is often more interesting and entertaining than anything Hollywood could fabricate.
As far as documentaries go, I haven't seen a good one on this subject in years and most historical documentaries these days seem geared more towards entertainment than accuracy. I used to love the History Channel, Discovery, A&E, etc. Nowadays they're filled with ghost stories and silly re-enacted stuff.

We went to see this on opening night. I really enjoyed the movie.Classic Michael Mann. The shootouts were very loud and fantastic looking. The scenery is great, along with the cars, trains, and planes. Depp did nice work.(except you can see his pierced ears in some close ups) Very well made.
I'm thinking of seeing it again...I never went to see a movie at the theater a 2nd time!
