Larry Hagman has a Holland and Holland shotgun engraved with images from the TV show Dallas.

I think there are photos of it in the Holland and Holland book "The royal gun maker" by Donald Dallas.

Mel Torme was a big-time Colt SAA collector.

And Chuck Norris is in the forefront of pro-Second Amendment folks.

And so is Ted Nugent.

And so is Louise Mandrell.

Director John Milius is a big-time collector and enthusiast. He really strives to make his movies technically correct where guns are concerned.

HK USP 45 acp, not a 1911 along with a few smith 2 and 3rd gen guns and a ruger 22 of some sort.

and I believe Michael Talbott (the guy who played stanley switeck) from Miami Vice is a recreational shooter as well and even uses a browning high power just like his character from miami vice did

Sipowicz of Hollywood owns a nice Colt DS and a S&W Centennial. I believe his son Dino has a S&W 17-6.

John Popper the lead singer of Blue's Traveler's is a very big gun enthusiast. He even has a Cadillac with custom built in compartments so he can carry several rifles and handguns. He likes to stop at local gun ranges while on tour. And of course Uncle Ted (Nugent) he is a big backer of National Concealed Carry.

Mel Torme had the uncanny ability to remember Colt SAA serial numbers and saw a Colt SAA studio gun and recognized the serial number as being consecutive to a gun he owned. I think it had mismatched parts but he found them on other guns there and reassembled it and bought the gun. I can barely remember my own phone number.
And I once met Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd but found them shallow and rather two dimensional.

When in SoCal, the wife and I were on the Board of Directors of Quail Unlimited in L.A. We volunteered several times to assist with the Dub Taylor Sporting Clays fundraiser @ Raahauge's.

People who came were:
The Mandrelle sisters
Leslie Easterbrook (from Police Academy)
Stephen Kenally (Dallas)
Joe Mantegna
Marshal Teague (Roadhouse)
Lou Ferrigno
Phil Spangenberger (gun writer & walk-on actor)
Buck Taylor (Tombstone)=shoots CAS
The Carradines shoot CAS
Selleck donated scripts for auction.
John Milius (writer for MANY movies)

Apologies for spelling/typos. It's early and I need more coffee.

ps: Most of the actors in The Wild Bunch. There is a scene where they are walking to the big gun-down. Watch how they exhibit muzzle control.

Steven Segal is a firearms buff. But he is (as he will point out at every oppertunity) a reserve Sheriffs deputy. He's not so sure "ordinary" people should be running around armed.

Robert Stack, at 16 years of age, was one of the nation's leading skeet shooting champions. He came from a wealthy family, who could afford fine shotguns and cases of ammunition during the Depression.
His autobiography, "Straight Shooting" is well worth reading.
Stack, best known for playing federal agent Eliot Ness and for being a pilot in the comedy, "Airplane," was very good friends with Clark Gable.
In "Straight Shooting," Stack wrote that Gable had a clause in his acting contract that he would not work during duck season -- such a nut for duck hunting was he.
David Niven was a British officer (12 years or so) before he became an actor. He enjoyed shooting skeet with Gable, and the two often fished together. Gable was quite the outdoorsman, Niven said.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Bruce Boxleitner. I know he did a title photo several years ago with Phil Spangenberger and Ol' Mose (Hank Worden) for an article Phil did in G&A about law enforcement guns in the old west. Apparently Boxleitner loves to play a cowboy on film and I've heard this translates to his personal life.

I'm surprised Jerry Lewis has not been mentioned. He has been a collector of Single Action Army's for many years. At one time he was a very accomplished fast draw artist, exhibition shooter and fancy gun handling. I saw him exhibit his skills at handling a pair of matched Colt Armys and was absolutely amazed. .......... Big Cholla

Richard Moll (Bull from TV's Night Court) is an avid hunter and gun owner, as is British actor Michael Gambon from what I understand. Brad Johnson, who was Bo Dorn in Crossfire Trail is an avid gun owner and has had several custom lever actions made for him. Wilford Brimley, who before he became an actor was Howard Hughes bodyguard is a gun owner. There are many more I'm sure.

Sorry, you're mistaken, that was just the community water tower.

I think after the Tom Selleck interview, we can put Rosie firmly in the anti gun camp.

Don't be fooled into thinking some famous person is into guns or pro gun just because they get a CWP or carry a gun. Many are still anti gun and are just elitist enough to believe only special folks should have guns.

Michael Ironside is big into guns.

I don't remember which show, but years ago Tom Selleck took a lot of flack for defending his gun ownership. Ol' Magnum did not back down.

Owning a gun does not mean they like guns or support the gun movement. I own a guitar but that does not mean I know how to play it well enough to be considered a musician.

Sarah Brady, Diane Feinstein, Charles Schummer, Hilary Clinton and Maxine Waters owns guns and three are known to have concealed permits. I do not think they can be considered supporters of gun owners.

The posts about Mel Torme are certainly true. I met him n the old Buckhorn Gun Store in Dallas many years ago, and he was cordial and very knowledgeable. Seemed like a nice guy, not elitist at all.

Clark Gable hunted more than ducks. After filming, "Mogambo", he took Grace Kelly ((his co-star) on a private safari. I suppose they hunted some, but evidently were looking mainly for a chance to have private time alone. It caused a scandal, as neither was married, let alone to one another. Times have changed.

I was sort of glad to read that, as I sensed that they'd be good for one another as I watched the film. But in the movie, Gable wound up with the brunette. I think it was Ava Gardner or maybe some Italian actress. I think Gardner. But Grace Kelly was the standout. Or, maybe I just like blondes. But she had real quality.

I've heard that she had some issues with her father. Don't recall if they were at odds or if she was really close to him. Either way, she had a thing for older men. Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, and then she married Prince Ranier. Maybe she found that older men are more mature and know more and could show her more of the world.

Anyway, they seem to have enjoyed the safari, and it made headlines. Got a lot of free publicity from it.

Does anyone here know which safari rifles Gable had? I bet they were good ones.

Oh: he wasn't an actor (except in one movie about a safari that he made) but the celebrated columnist and author Robert Ruark was a hunting buff who made several safaris and at least one shikar to India, I believe. I saw a photo of him with a tiger rug. He was Playboy's Travel Editor and wrote a wonderful aticle there on choosing guns and other gear for African hunting. I think it was the Mar. or April, 1965 issue, if you want to check library files or old magazine stores. Ruark died later that year, alas. Look for his African-based novels at libraries and used book stores. He was the sole US journalist to tell the truth about African politics, I believe. His writing made his friend and white hunter Harry Selby a celebrity.

When I first moved to southern california in the 60s I had a GF that was raised around calabassas. As a teenager her folks ran a motel and resturant there that some actors hung out in. She had pictures of clark gable and ward bond and her rideing motorcycles. Gable and Bond were buddys. I belive she had a small "extra" type role in the "misfits" clarks last movie probley due to knowing him.

I had a friend who had retired from San Jose, Ca PD. He said that he an several other officers had responded to a burglary alarm at the home of Tom Hayden and Jane Fonda one night. He said that they were met by Hayden in the driveway and he was carrying a Browning HP. He ask Hayden if any one else was on the property and did they have a gun. Hayden said that Jane Fonda was in an upstairs bedroom and had a Colt Python. Later when my friend, who was a Ranger with our Agency said he ask Hayden and Fonda when he was talking with them that he thought they were against people havng guns. They told him that was for the other people, not for them.

Maybe that's one of the reason Eric Clapton moved to Ohio.

This was also said by Sarah Brady many years ago in an interview that was televised. I was watching it when she said it. Many pro gun groups jumped on it right away.

What I did not see but heard about was Rep Nasty Pelosi saying basically the same thing about her benefits and lifestyle. Many people in the spotlight elevate themselves above the rest of the country. They think laws apply to others and not them.

I have worked dignitary protection before and been treated well but a lot more often as a servant.

John Barrymore hosted Mr. Gable on his skeet range, at least once.
He and Delores Costello did some hunting on their honeymoon.

Ned Beatty used to shoot in our local turkey shoots. Seems like he had a muzzle loading shotgun of some sort.

A few days ago I happened across some video of Sammy Davis Jr's gun handling prowess...

Jerry Mathers - Beaver from "Leave it to Beaver" - is very pro-gun.

I love Sammy Davis Jr.'s comment in that clip.
" I wouldn't have put it on if I wasn't good at it."

Clark Gable had a side opening double 20 ga made for Carole Lombard, It was built By Henry Grieb (forgive the spelling ) since a standard break open would hit the bottom of the boat. It was purchased at the Clark Gable estate sale and was last seen in Fl or Ga., in 2010. It has a "medalliaon" in the stock that basically says: made for Clark Gable for Carole Lombard ( I do not remember the exact words. Very intersting gun. Be Safe.

Let us not forget Jerry Lee Lewis -
He'd go by Graceland now and then and shoot up the gate back in the old days.
He also shot his bass player (*I didn't know it was loaded*) in the chest with a .357 Magnum and shot up a Memphis office building with a 1911.

Ol' Jerry sure was a hoot. (Probably still is)

Does anyone remember seeing a gunshow exhibit of Gable's K22, along with a photo of him carrying it seated on a motorcycle at a boat dock or marina. Saw it at the Armory in Tampa, 20-25 years ago.

Regards,

While Mr. Stack was apparently an all around nice fellow and a fine wingshot, he was never in the Olympics.

According to IDMB, he did participate in the '35 and '36 national championships, coming in second in 35 and setting a record (with his squad) in '36.

Here's a video from the coverage of the '84 Olympics of Mr. Stack demonstrating skeet shooting to Arthur Ashe, who was working as a commentator:

I remimber an interviewer commenting to Jodie Foster that he recently had shot a 357 magnum and was hardly able to handle it due to the recoil. She basically told him that he needed to get out more and shoot a lot before he worked his way up to 44's. To me that implied a shooting gun owning background.
I think many of the rich and famous feel that laws are for other people.
