Intel's $20B Licking County Ohio Chip Mega-Site Will Become The Largest Semiconductor Fab On The Planet.
"Today’s announcement is monumental news for the state of Ohio," said Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine. "Intel’s new facilities will be transformative for our state, creating thousands of good-paying jobs in Ohio manufacturing strategically vital semiconductors, often called ‘chips.’ Advanced manufacturing, research and development, and talent are part of Ohio’s DNA, and we are proud that chips—which power the future—will be made in Ohio, by Ohioans."
Intel will initially invest $20 billion into its first new manufacturing site in 40 years, and will spend another $100 billion on partnerships and education institutions in the region to maintain an influx of talent and bolster its research programs. It's a huge win for the state of Ohio, and it also represents a massive, long-term investment in US manufacturing.

Bout time they looked at the Great Lakes for those thirsty fabs, instead of the drought stricken southwest.
Once the PLA grabs Taiwan and gets Taiwan Semi, the value of these domestic plants will skyrocket.

Welcomed news, indeed. Licking County is small population wise (179K) and this should boost the economy at a time that it really needs it.

PS: I've lost a few lures in Buckeye Lake (nice place).

To get big businesses that employ a large amount of people certain concessions are always made to get a deal done.
Presently in Ohio one must be a green card holder or a US citizen to legally work in the state.
Not to long ago New York City lost getting an Amazon Headquarters and 25,000 jobs because a NY congresswoman objected to the deal the City and State made with Amazon.
Austin Texas is getting a new 18B Samsung chip fab,a Tesla Headquarters,car plant and battery factory plus a 2nd new Apple Campus,there already is one here now, because of concessions made by the State and City of Austin.
Every place makes concessions to get the jobs and people to spend money.Its considered a win for both sides.

Licking County adjoins Franklin County, essentially Columbus. It will be a good Intel location due to its proximity to Columbus and its hi-tech support facilities (Ohio State U., Battelle Institute, etc.) and also there is a sizeable labor market to draw from in Columbus and southern Ohio. While it's not much like Florida and California weatherwise, central Ohio has relatively mild winters and summers, not much like the more severe winter weather in the areas adjacent to the Great Lakes. As a former resident of Cleveland, I can affirm that living and working in Cleveland sucks, especially in the winter.

It's great that Intel is expanding, as a matter of national security. We can't afford to allow most semiconductor production to remain in Taiwan for much longer.

Ohio's a good central location for it. Auto manufacturers to the north in Michigan. The Jeep plant near Toledo. A Ford truck plant along Lake Erie between Cleveland and Sandusky. Honda's big plant in Marysville. A big Toyota plant just to the south in Kentucky. Many auto plants in the southern states.

3100 acres of Licking County has been annexed by the community of New Albany. This includes the new Intel sight.

My brother is a zoning officer in the next county to the North (Delaware), The secret got out somewhere, several new Housing Developments, started paperwork just after Thanksgiving!

The area is looking at 3000 Intel jobs and 7-8000 support jobs.

I live about 5 miles from the Intel sight. My condo's value already doubled in the last 3 years, I may have to sell out and move to the sticks when the wife retires.

Around 8 years ago an industrial park opened up just outside New Albany to support Limited Brands. New Albany missed out on the Tax Base! I believe New Albany Vowed to never let that happen again.

I live very close to the new site much like Ivan. Recently other tech companies Google / Facebook moved into the area. I worked in New Albany since 2005 or thereabout, until we went to work from home in March of 2020 due to Covid. Our company is selling the 400,000 SF office building we occupied once they realized we could pull off the fully remote environment.

It is a good thing for the area and Ohio, but our best of both worlds is about to come to a screeching halt. New Albany is a nice blend of city / urban benefits all while being within 10 minutes of the country.

We have nice golf courses good restaurants little traffic and great deer hunting.

I will probably move as well. I like to be on the edge of the growth.
