45 ACP Ammo Shortage Over?
Last week I made one of my periodic stops at a WallMart in East Texas. To my surprise
I found at the locked ammo display cabinet, Winchester .45 ACP fmj ammo in 100 rd boxes for $31 plus pennies. It took more than half an hour to find the employee with the keyes to the ammo cabinet, but with the help of the Store Manager the key holder eventually appeared. I though they only had one box of 100 rds, but after the key holder unlocked the glass fronted cabinet, he found more boxes. He asked me how many boxes did I want?
I bought three boxes, and also immediately regretted not buying more when I realized that there was no limit, and with 600 rounds I could take another course at the Texas Pistol
Academy, this time with my new (for me) Colt Combat Commander. So, next week I will go back and see if I can get another 300 rounds. I am wondering, was this only luck, or
quantities of .45 ACP FMJ at the old prices becoming available again?

I just ordered a new Kimber myself. In anticipation of it's receipt, I went by my local Wally World to peruse the ammo section in hopes of locating some practice ammo. Eureka! I bought all that was there. Maybe it will hold me until the next shipment rolls in.

I think that it is still catch as you can. For a while I could still get Blazer Brass .45 FMJ even when I couldn't find anything else. Lately, all that I can get reliably is .357 Sig ammo. I see that every other week or so. Bass Pro actually had it for less than Walmart this weekend. Go figure. (I'd asked my wife to get me .357 Magnum, she came home with .357 Sig, eh... I can still use it.) Come to think of it, that's about the only pistol ammo period that I can usually find. It's just some centerfire rifle sometimes (and usually none at all), a few expensive .22 variants, and sporting shotgun shells to be had at local Walmarts otherwise.

The price for the 100 round W/W .45ACP 230 FMJ val-paks as recently as Saturday here (30 miles N/Seattle) was $53.00 per. FYI: Wally World had ZERO 9X19, .38, or 45ACP stuff.
Up here anyway, those were the only two boxes of the stuff I'd seen in about 3 months, at any price? I just shook my head and walked away. Thanking my Father posthumously once again for all the MATCH L/C 54' he'd started us out with.

That's good news but our Wally World continues to be out of all of the regular handgun ammo including .45 ACP...Hopefully it will change soon.......

Last wednesday I got lucky at one of the Wal-Marts.
It was the 1st time I went early in the morning...7:45am
and was surprised to see their shelf with 13 boxes of
Win .45acp 230gr Value Packs.
I bought 6 boxes, and left the other 7 boxes.
The counter person said she called a lady at home to get there asap,
as there was only 7 value packs left and that the lady has been looking for some
for awhile.
The counter person had 4 other boxes under the counter on hold for her friend.
I've been looking for month's, but nobody has called me when they have stocked.
But I'm happy since I was able to buy some that morning.

My WM still has a 6 box limit. I found 6 boxes of .40 cal and about 20 boxes of 9mm. Bought all the .40 but when I went back for some 9mm a couple days later it was sold out. Haven't seen 45ACP in quite some time.

Love them or hate them, you have to give Wal-Mart credit for not engaging in price gouging.

This is part of the problem if you are not on the friend list. I've also seen dealers buy then resale at gun shows. This is part of the friends network also.

The only thing at my Wal Mart is 44mag and CCI .22lr. Thankfully, Mission essential almost always has .45 in stock.
Of course, if you really want to be safe.....buy a Five Seven, I see 5.7x28 by the case load at Bass Pro every time I go.

45 ACP Ammo Shortage Over?
Not around here, it isn't.
Every once in a great while a few boxes of WWB show up, but it's pitifully little and at very long intervals.

Stopped at Cabellas in Post Falls ID on my way back from Portland on Sunday. I was amazed at the prices for WWB 9mm, forty and .45 acp. About double what WM asks for it. But not nearly as amazed at the line of IDIOTS buying it.
Sad times.

Same situation as buying a popular toy or video game around Christmas from an Ebay scalper. If Walmart is constantly out of stock, one eventually gets tired of looking and just pays an amount equal to their perceived need for an item.
A lot of people have depleted or dipped into their SHTF stock piles just to keep in practice, otherwise I suspect things would be worse. Hoarding comes in handy some times.

No shortage here at casa El Catshooter. If I do run low, I just cast/reload.
I say anything more, it'd be rude of me.

Aloha,
At least your Wally World Sells guns and ammo.
Here in Honolulu, they don't sell either.
Probably due to humbug local gun laws.
Waiting periods etc.

Our Wally Worlds still have nothing but DUST. Some times they get something in but a group of older retired guys hang out at 5 am and buy whatever comes in. Bass Pro has no handgun ammo.
My local small gun shop does have all calibers if you want to pay the price. He is not gouging, makes very little profit, just costs him much more than the big box.

Which WalMart? In Matamoras or Honesdale?
And what about Gander Mountain?

I was in the Wal-Mart in Fairlakes in northern VA. yesterday. They had Federal 9mm for $8.97. a box. I asked the lady if she was sure that was the right price. She said it was. They had a lot of it. Several thousand rounds, I did not try to count it. No other handgun ammo and no .22 rimfire. I don't really need any 9mm ammo right now. But I am thinking maybe I should go back and buy some for future reference.

Yesterday my local WM in Central Florida had Federal 115 grain FMJ for $8.97 a box of fifty. They, also, had Winchester white box but it had gone up to $10.97 or thereabouts. I always used Federal on duty and prefer it over Winchester white box which has varying size primer flash holes. Besides, the Federal was less expensive so I bought my six box limit. Returned this morning and bought another six boxes. They had some .40 S&W and a little .45 ACP. Could be supply is starting to catch up.

How much are the Walmart Win 100 round value pack 9mm these days?
And, does Federal have a 100 round value pack?

Small signs that ammo situation may be getting better.
