What do you think, Are things getting better?
Do you think the Economy is getting better? Do you have a good paying job? Are you able to pay your bills? I dont see any of this in Michigan, our unemployment rate was 15.3% last week.I am currently making less than half the money I was making 2 years ago. What is happening in other states?

I'm in one of the harder hit industries...construction equipment. Things in SC are no better than a year ago...in some respects worse. I still have a job but my commissions are down more than 60% from last year. Our state controller made the statement last week that he couldn't find one job created or saved in our state from the stimulus package.

I was fortunate to retire two months ago with a good pension and having no debt. My wife and I worked our asses off for twenty years together to do that.
I almost feel guilty though, because all around us we see good, honest people struggling or loosing their jobs. It is obvious to me that we are going toward a socialist society and now it's really speeding up.
I predict a civil war within a decade, if that long.
I feel sorry for the next generations.

I dont see things getting better here in the Phila area, I have been looking for a good job for a couple of months, And I get owners smiling at me telling they want me on their team, But they have guys already laid off and business is real slow in the HVAC industry,,, I am well qualified, with 15 years behind me, I am looking at the better companies in the area, And things are still tough,,, AND I think they will get worse before getting better for real, We may have a surge, And it may look good, BUT surges wont last, We need to slowly build back up and not be foolish in thinking that the economy can be fixed in a year!
BUT I havent had to sell anything to make bills or live.
So I am doing OK and better than some others that are also laid off currently, So in a way I am thankful!

no the enconomy in general sucks, the true unempolyment rate is over 30% I bet.
But real estate is picking up(no I am not pulling your leg), lots of cash buyers over 1 mil out looking for(and getting) amazing deals......so these guys think the bottom on at least that sort of property(waterfront) is about near the bottom.
Most are buying as turn key 2nd(or 12th in one case) residences, they dont want to remodel(except for few), just move in enjoy, lock and go home.
this is how our area was in the from the teens thru the early-mid1970's, lots of part time waterfront retreates from out of area(Seattle+) Then in then 1980-2000 most were bought as permenent homes.
now we are stuck with some darn stupid ****.....cant beleive the **** the Russian's built...they showed up at the boom......now all gone.....bank owned......they like mustard(baby poo) exteriors....pure class
yes always can pay bills....I saved, no McMansion, only 2 bad habits(guns, Land Cruisers) but I do wish I had a few more checks coming in...better than a few months ago.....no income....just tossing money out the door as I drove.
I just try to pass any work onto my buddies and builders(now doing remodels) to keep us all going.
so I see a bottom to RE in my area....not sure when...but its in that hole over there
now if the O dont screw us royal....we might have a chance..in a few years
so when I dont have much or anything going on for biz, I do stuff I want.....like hang out with our new pup

The economy will pick back up as it always has but this up and down
economy will become less stable as time goes on. The real long term damage to jobs will continue. Manufacturing is all but gone and we have been headed for a "service job" economy for several decades now. A country cannot survive with all service, or government jobs.
These so called, energy related or Green Jobs are a joke. I wouldn't bank on those and have taught my children not to count on them.
This is looking more and more like a replay of the Jimmy Carter years.
What is really going to suffer in the next four years is our Consitution and the Rights that are protected under it.
There are only a minority of conservatives in office now. Certainly not enough to stop the "CHANGE". With this new supreme court judge, it's going to tip the scales toward the socialists and she will be there forever.
And yes, the 2nd Amendment is going to take a HUGE hit.

rant on
Getting better? What planet are you on?
On the plus side: well, I'm still alive....but that's about as far as it goes.
It won't be "better" until this nightmare we are currently living through is over and done with. It won't be better until most of the scum bag politicos are voted out of office and replaced with people that are honorable and are not criminals.
It won't be better until the current occupant of the White House is gone.
It won't be better until the American public pulls their collective heads out and wake up.
It won't be better until common sense and honesty prevail.
COME ON, GIMME A BREAK!
FUGITABOUTIT!
rant off
P.S. What made you ever think anything was getting better?

I'm a homemaker, my job hasn't changed. Our family income comes from the Navy, which is still in business.
I suspect that in Michigan - where I still have family and associates - that the real unemployment rate is over 20 percent, maybe 25 percent, if you include people who gave up, or have to work part time but would like to work full time.
8 something an hour would be a poor wage for a manufacturing job in terms of what that wage will actually buy. Probably far worse than the dollar an hour or whatever it was that Ford used to pay when they first started up assembly lines. Therein lays part of the problem, the erosion of the manufacturing base has eroded most living wage jobs available to someone without a college education (and in some cases even with).
Guess I'll try to go become a D.O. or something after the wife retires. People will still need their bush doctoring.

Anyone who believes Obama really wants to fix the economy needs to wake up. Things are going to hell in a handbasket, and it's all by design. It goes something like this:
* manipulate and disrupt the free market via regulation
* disrupt economic growth
* create economic chaos
* market "the failure of capitalism" as the cause of economic chaos
* seize assets and the means of production using chaos as justification
* declare government intervention to be the solution to economic distress
* disguise command economics as capitalism and repeat the cycle
* destroy the Constitution
* create a dependent class through economic chaos
* seize control of health care
* import a constituency that will support redistribution of wealth and a one-party political system, thereby disenfranchising the opposition---especially White conservatives
* devalue privately held savings by printing money
* impoverish opposition in order to diminish its political power
* destroy the monetary system and implement cashless economy
* increase taxes in order to stifle economic opportunity and increase dependence
* implement government ownership of home mortgages
* create "national civilian security corps"

Keep the racial discussions off this board.
Obama is evil and needs to be removed. He intends to destroy America.

All is well for me and my family here in North East PA. I've had regular HVAC work since I got home in October. However, the state itself isn't doing too well. PA state workers haven't been paid for a few weeks now! Rendell's answer.. he actually told them.. TO APPLY FOR FOOD STAMPS.

Things are great for us in East Tennessee! No complaints, at all. Illegals seem to have gone home. Mountains aren't being covered up by cheaply built rental cabins. T-shirt shops, Funnel cake outlets and Cheap, Chinese, plastic black bear **** is less noticeable. On the other hand, quality US made products seem to be in higher demand, Moonshine is still selling and the local mom and pop shops are still selling stuff.
A few new restaurants have opened.
VW is coming to Chatanooga.
Gun shops have ammo and gun prices seem to be coming down just a hair.
My stock portfolio is higher than it's been in a couple of years (no thanks to Haliburton, Enron or Worldcom).
I filled up my car for under $20 today.
Like I said: No complaints!

I know what a bush doctor does because my wife goes to one, but what's a D. O.?

As long as there are Indian reservations, alcohol, and pointy or blunt objects readily available I'll have work.
The sky's not falling. The economy will pick up. Politicians come and go. The nation survives.
I'm far more distressed at the speed at which my kids are growing up. Jeez, that was fast.

Boy!
I'm sure glad I swore of the political section!
I might have discussed something controversial?
