Camp Carbine project gun.....
I picked up this Marlin .45 Camp Carbine a while back - it was sitting amongst a bunch of police trade-in 9mm Camp Carbines. It had a horrible green stained stock, but it was priced at around $250 so I grabbed it up.
It sat around for a while before I shot it, and then it wouldn't feed a thing. Not ball, not anything. I tried a different magazine with the same results. So it sat some more.
Then the wonders of the internet came to the rescue, and I figured out somebody reassembled the thing wrong and got the feed ramp in the wrong spot. I got it back together right, and it feeds everything just fine.
I couldn't stand the green stock, so I Kryloned this one until I find a better solution. Midway has Ramline folders for $100, but I may just leave it like this.
I've ordered heavier recoil springs and a new buffer. Sights are next - any suggestions? Anyone else playing with one of these?

I think Choate still makes a folder, these are better made than Ramlines.
Some people have fitted their Malins with red dots, I'm not sure how they mount them. A C-More railway might be good for the job.

You're right - the one I was thinking about is from Choate:

When I bought mine the stock had been coated with bedliner and looked like ****. Some paint stripper, a little sandpaper and some tung oil and it looks much better even thought the pic isn't great.
A cheap little BSA red dot works great as the range is limited to 50 to 75 yards. Mount is standard Marlin.
Mine is a 9 but shooting a .45 at 75 yds is fun as you can watch the bullet go downrange.
I also had to replace spring and buffer but it runs great now.

Yes, that is a common problem, but an easy fix, when you find a used one. Don't let anybody tell you the extra barrel length won't gain you extra performance out of the .45acp, that is a common but incorrect comment I hear on other forums. I chorongraphed 9 different factory loads out of a 4" M625 compared to my .45acp Campgun, and the increase in velocity ranged from 60 fps to 222 fps. For example, the WWB 230 grain slug averaged 960 as opposed to 821 from the handgun. They are nice rifles, and it appears with new spring and buffer you are ready to go!

Sir, you and everybody else, too. A buddy of mine has been looking for a .45 Camp Carbine for several years now with no luck. The 9s turn up every now and then, but the .45s are apparently made of unobtainium. Smith really ought to make one of its own--that's a market niche that's essentially unfilled right now.
Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Naa na na naaaaa I've got one! (Of course, I actively hunted for it for 2 years, and paid probably more than it's worth, but what the heck! I've GOT one!)

cx4storm beretta - semiautomatic carbine Beretta makes a carbine that soothes the need many people feel for a self loading pistol caliber carbine, aka PCC. Other people just buy Hi Points, which are made in 9mm or .40, with a long rumored .45 ACP version that's been vaporware so far. Kel Tec also makes PCCs - the Sub 2000 series, and various and sundry conversions of ARs are available.

I have them both. Curiously the 45 is the only long arm I've had that the stock broke on-cracked at the wrist. Glued it and bought a spare stock from Gun Parts.

I've got a Camp .45, barely used. I had no idea they were that rare.
What I would REALLY like is the conversion kit for it, so it can take double-stack mags the way its little brother does.

I started looking for one a few months ago. I found one about two weeks after I started looking and they wanted $800 for it. I asked the guy why he wanted so much for it. He said it was no longer made and it is a rare collectors item now. He said if I didn't want it some one would buy it within the week. I refused to pay that much for one. It is still sitting on the rack as of last week.
