Beefier Truck Tires
I have a 06 Toyota Tundra Dbl Cab 2WD with factory 17" alloy rims its about time for factory tire replacement.
I want to keep the factory rims, NO lift but want a beefier tire without rubbing up front when turning and no real affect to my speedometer.
the tire size is 265/65/17.
also, looking more for a highway tire for a smoother ride.
anyone have a tundra with tire experiences they can share or a link with pictures.
also looking for a good quality tire that does not have michelin price tag.
thanks in advance
I did find this. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I don't know how big you can go in size without rubbing, but Toyo makes a good a/t tire that's reasonable in price and rides good. They call them "open country a/t" I've had good luck with them.

My 07 Tacoma TRD Sport has the same size rims. I just replaced the OEM Bridgestone HT tires with same, at a bit over 65K mostly hwy miles, best life I've ever seen from 4x4 tires. These have a not-too-aggresive tread that's reasonably quiet at speed, yet has presented no "issues" in snow, or on broken rock surfaces, etc. Were about $165 +/-

Road speed sensor will give inaccurate info to the computer, it will alter fuel/timing. May or may not matter, unless you tow.

jkc, you have any pics of your ride?
so you went with the same size tire and got 65K, WOW.
I am at 30K and the factory rubber is thin, but I dont have a 4wd.
thanks for the toyo info. I pull a trailer of limbs about once or twice a year.

+1 on the Toyo Open Country tires. I have had great luck with them on numerous trucks and SUVs. Quiet and perform well in the snow.

Sorry, no pix --- it's factory stock, with a cab-high shell with driver's side lift door.

BF Goodrich makes a great series of truck tires. I'm partial to the A/T myself, I'm sure they have a style you would like.

if your going taller its going to effect the speedo, but for the last 25 years I have driven Toyota's with oversized tires and the speedo being off 5-10% is no big deal....you get use to it very fast, or GPS or you can normaly correct the speedo to match
not sure on the Tundra and know nothing of 17" wheels but on our 99 Lexus LX 470(Cruiser with fluff) which is bone stock, we just put BFG AT 285/75/16's(33's) on it, the boys at Discount were sure they would not fit...but I knew better, fit perfect with no rubbing anyplace. I run 295's on my 2000 Cruiser but its lifted 2" alot of guys run 305's but they IMOP are too wide, I really dont like wide tires
only tires I run anymore are BFG AT's, they last 50k++ and ride great with good all around traction, I have most of mine(8 sets+) are sniped
Oh, the LX had Toyo's on it when we got it, E rated...they SUCKED

I'm a Big O AT fan. Bought a used truck with those on, busted a tire out of state, took it to a Big O and they replaced it no charge! Everything is included in it's price. It ends up being competetive when you add up all the additionals from other companies. Got about 60K in a set on my Diesel crew cab!
