Default Darwin "Lifetime Achievement Award" for all time stupidity

Ok, there have been a few "Darwin" award nominees, but this has got to take the cake, hands down.

Never before in human history have a couple of total and complete goofs engaged in anything that is more stupid.

Give it a look and tell me what you think!

HOLY TOLEDO JONES! GIMME A BREAK!

These guys need to be taken into "protective custody" for the rest of their natural lives...which if the keep this up, won't be too long!

That is certainly not very bright but they did get away with it. Meaning they probably knew what they were doing, so it's not as dangerous as riding a motorcycle. (I used to volunteer in a Trauma II ER)

ain't as dumb as some of you make it out to be- they obviously had done their homework and knew there was sufficient clearance.
I did dumber stuff in days long past, took risks that had not been calculated in advance and somehow was spared a bad ending.
Those kids have stones.

Yes, I noticed that there was plenty of clearance. But....what it something was different? What if something was "broken" on the train and something was hanging down? What if? What if? These kind of "what ifs" don't give you a second chance? Is that a chance you would take? Not me!!

Yes, it could be done...and it was done...but that doesn't change the fact that these two young goofs are terminally stupid.

That's the kind of chances I would never take...even when I was young and stupid....and that's why I got to grow old and ugly!

About as "bright" as the kids that go surfing on top of the NYC subways

The only thing we did close to the railway was put pennies on the track to flatten them. Of course we also jumped the 3rd rail at times.

I would think something being broken and hanging down would be pretty common in Russia.

Come on Charlie, the herd needs thinning out and you know it. Why not let nature handle it?

growing up in New Orleans we used to soap the street car tracks-
Amazing what a bar of Ivory soap does to the stoping interval of a streetcar

Next time-I'll tell ya about shooting bottle rockets through the open windows of the streetcars as they passed. Must be why I am such a good wingshot today on those long crossing shots.

I think I will ride my motorcycle any time, but when I think about lying on the tracks when a train comes, I will ride some more.
Any one to think that what they did was not very dangerous is a tard.

Not a very bright trick even if the clearance is known to the morons involved. As GP Charlie pointed out, murphy's law will eventually prevail. One broken brake rod, or anything else hanging below a car, would definitely ruin their day.
My only "nasty" encounter with a train was back in my high school years. Several of us were driving around late one night enjoying a few cold long neck Carlings Black Label(about three bucks a case if I recall correctly) and decided to take a leak off an overpass on a isolated stretch of road. Just by coincidence, a train was coming, so someone thought it would be cool to wait and pee on the train, which we did. We all learned it is a very bad idea to pee on top of a steam engine that's puffing hard pulling a long freight up a grade....

I don't think these kids qualify.

True Darwin winners only receive their awards posthumously.

The place I work has a set of tracks along side. Its a fairly heavily used track, and normally the trains are moving along very good. But every few years one gets broken down, closing the road. Both cars and pedestrians are forced to wait. The go around is a couple of miles. Easy for cars, not easy for walkers. So when the train is stopped, the more daring and younger ones just crawl under it. The theory being trains don't make jack rabbit starts...

Once a few years ago a young black guy got tired of waiting (he could see down the tracks and it was a 100 car long freight) so even though it was moving slowly, he dove and rolled! He made it, but I think it was a little closer than he'd have liked it to be.

One of our employees has a computer that is dying. He wants a replacement, and I agree. But he wanted to make sure the hard drive is wiped clean when he gives it up. Also fine with me, but he can work the uncompensated overtime to get it that way. I'm not. He didn't like my suggestion to just put it out on the tracks and wait. He said its illegal.

And that even our practice of placing pennies or an occasional nickel (some of my friends didn't have to work for their money) was against the law. I guess unlike Caje, trains up here get derailed by a penny. But soaping the rails never occurred to me. Sure, we maybe once or twice did a fountain with some ivory liquid in college. We don't have street cars...yet....but sounds like fun.

I heard a family story of my grandfather in russia, probley around the mid 1880s when he was a boy. He was running late for home and started across a RR crossing. A solider tried to stop him and grandpa ran for a barn and hid in the hay. The solider was stabbing the hay around him. The train blew its whistle and the solider had to give up and run back to his post, as the reason he was there to start with, the czar was comeing through on that train!
Grandpa had said he never would forget the sound of that bayonet sliceing the hay around his head!

There was a old western that had wallace berry in it as a train robber. Somehow I remember the scene. They had greased the tracks on a grade and were just talking passing the time waiting for the train. Wallace was telling the boys that he wuz married once. Rail purty gal, she wuz. Had the purtyist brown eyes ya ever saw! --- Or wuz they blue? Funny, the things we remember!
