So often we hear PRACTICE...TRAINING....PRACTICE....TRAINING...OK all is well and good for that. How about WHAT is it that you practice. So many people will simply put up a target step off a given distance and then stand there and fire trying SO hard to one round on top of the other so as to have a near one hole group on the target.
Practice should include all things that you could encounter. Do you draw and fire from your concealment clothing? Do you practice reloads under stress? Do you fire while moving to cover/concealment? Do you fire using strong hand only, weak hand only? Do you work on tap, rack, bang drills? Do you fire only in good weather conditions? Do you fire only in good lighting? What about up close and VERY personal? Under 5-6 feet away? Do you practice using a barricade/wall for concealment/cover? Strong side and weak side. Ever try to use a TOTALLY unfamiliar firearm because yours is either empty or is out of commission? Have you ever fired while being seated in your vehicle? How about while you are driving? How about firing while you are lying down on a sofa or in your bed? What about trying to draw and fire while your hands are full of groceries going to your car? What about using your flashlight and firing under very low light conditions?
I do all of the above and try to figure out things I have to work on to replicate something I can train for. Maybe you should as well. Not only is it helpful, but is is a whole lot of fun at the same time. Have your shooting friends come up with something that will surprise you, you have no idea of what is to come....sort of like a real life scenario.
Just my thoughts.......
