Red face 'Investment' AR's?

When the doom and gloom of Obama's election hit , people were paying big premiums for AR's. Factories ran around the clock to try to keep up with demand. Since the panic buying (and price gouging) has waned and the economy has taken a nose dive , some people are now trying to sell those AR's and are expecting to get what they paid. Ain't happening. Dealers racks are full of reasonably priced AR's and people are getting PO'd that they can't get the $1200-1500-2000 they 'invested' in their's.

Same thing on many different firearms and ammo. Maybe these folks will start renting gunshow tables and drag the same overpriced stuff from show to show for the next 5 years.

Default Just Wait

Anyone who sells anything on the presumption that because BO hasn't yet made a move on the 2nd Amendment means that he won't, will live to regret it.

All joking aside, starting in the short term future, I would think it might become a buyers market again, and even may include certain types of ammunition to a small degree.

I tried to tell some friends back in February through June, and they wouldn't listen! I know of several that paid far, far more than they will ever get out of those pieces for no other reason than they wanted them the same time everyone else did.

I hope to pick up some deals if possible.

Default Buyer's Market Indeed

A quick search of the auction sites shows Colt M4s in the $1125.00 to $1150.00 range.
Don't fool yourselves into thinking that these prices won't rise again.
When the supply begins to shorten they will rise quickly.
When the Obamanation starts talking about renewing the AWB,and he will, the prices will sky rocket again.
This is a great opportunity to invest in something that will make $$$.

Many fine firearms have popped up recently around here, I'm flush with AR's (4) that I got into years before this rash of panic buying. My list includes:
1 Bushy with a mild tactical dress
1 Colt HBar set up for Groundhoggin
1 SBR, dblstar lower and 10" upper, still in the process
and my true "investment grade',
a Colt SP1 'slickside' that has had approximately 50 rounds put through it.

I've had more people asking if I want to buy another lately but I just don't need anymore.
I too have been trying to tell people to buy what they can and put it back for the last 20 years and nobody listened, they just looked at me like I'd grown another head. I had a good friend that I tryed to put onto a nice Oly for $650 about 2 years ago, he wasn't interested. After the crush he came down and paid $1500 for a S&W MP15. I couldn't talk him out of it.
Go figure.

CDNN has been running promos to try to move ARs. The Colt 6920s have been running about 1200 with various freebies thrown in - more mags, misc bits of gear, and sometimes free shipping. Respectable enough CMMGs are running around 800.

Noveskes and such haven't really come down in price, though more models are in stock than in the past. I've got four ARs and a Sig 556, but I still figure that I need to get a 6920 or 6940 and one or two Noveskes eventually.

Default "Investment" then..

Ok.

I have been thinking of getting an AR for target practice and varmint shooting.

I do have one question...
I have decided since this is going to be a bench gun, I would like to get a stainless steel lower. To my understanding, DPMS no longer makes the one they had previously.

Who else makes a stainless lower- preferably machined from billet instead of cast?

They're not cheap, but you should be able to find what you want from Accuracy Systems.

All of mine were bought this year and during the "hype". The most I paid for any of them was $989 for my M&P15r. My new Stag lefty is only 2 weeks old and I got it for under $875 believe it or not. All of my ammo was bought in bulk and I had fixed per round prices in my head when making offers that I would not go over. I feel like I've done just fine and could still sell stuff for what I paid for it. I'll just say I couldn't get it at Wally for what I paid for it except for some WWB 9mm that I paid $27.50 per box of a hundred for when it couldn't be found.

I only have one. It is a Rock River heavy barrel varmit that I bought 2-3 years ago. It is a nice gun and shoots well. I have just never had a strong attraction to ARs. I also bought an 9mm M&P awhile back. It is also a nice gun but I havent developed an attraction to it either. No matter what kind of modern firearm I try I seem to go back to older S&W revolvers, 1911s, lever actions, and bolt guns.

Why have I never been bitten by the black rifle bug?

My "tactical carbines" (except for the couple of SKSs and ammo I put back "just 'cause" long before this mess started) are a Winchester '94 Trapper in .45 Colt for me, and a 9422Magnum Trapper for my wife. I think I would like to add a '94 Trapper in .357.
