Default Just watched Ermey on "lock n load," got a question...

I did a quick forum search and couldn't find any discussion.

I'd taped the handgun hour, just watched it tonight. Right after the S&W 500 mag section, as they moved on to the next firearm, I noticed he had a cut over his left eye, and the beginnings of a shiner!

I know it's blasphemous to consider...but do you guys think he got "recoil bit?"

Anyone else notice?

Len

I don't know, but he needs to trim those eyebrows! They are disgustingly out of hand.

Wouldn't be the first time a shooter had been whacked in the "orb" Len?
Especially when touching off a .338 behind a 3X-9X Redfield TV tube scope set up for a guy 6 inches shorter than me! But that's never happened?

Looked to me like he may have gotten it when he was bench-firing the .44 mag.

He was having a hard time hanging on to the .44 and it seemed like it didn't get any better as he fired more.

He made a comment about the recoil of the .44 mag. I think it bit him over the eye; quite possible from the bench if he got too close to it and didn't hang on like grim death.

It sure did come pretty damn close. Thats probably why he said he didn't want to shoot it anymore.

Indeed. Though the way the 500 made his arms flex with the shockwave, I wouldn't want to shoot too many rounds through one of those, either.

I pointed that out to a friend of mine. The way they tape and edit shows it would be hard to know when it happened. The 44 did look more like the culprit to me.

Some one should ask him

Yep - I think the .44 caught him by suprise.

I rewound it a couple of times. That first shot with the .44Mag., from the bench-rest sure flung his arm back.

Sorry 'bout that Gunny!

He must have underestimated the 44.

If you look real close, during some of the firing sequences, he has .45 cases stuck in his ears for protection. Gunny is definitely old-school. You can tell he has no love for the M9.

I think that the Gunny underestimated the .44. It flipped back as if it was a .500 Mag in his hands during that sequence. It was a bit of a surprise that he didn't have more of a grip on it at the bench.
He had learned his lesson when he shot the .500 Mag off-hand later in the episode. He was hanging on to it for dear life when he lit it off.
