Default A little help for an old guy - or, inform me so I can explain it

OK, its a subject I know nothing about. But I could look smart to my wife.

She's got this urge that many middle age/old women have (I know she's old, she's almost my age.) She wants to help the disadvantaged. So she volunteers at the Free Store up the highway. They basically collect stuff and give it away. Food, clothing, you name it. I'm offended by the people, so I don't go near the place. Many reasons, one being the cars in the parking lot are better than ours. Expensive ones, like BMWs, Caddy's, etc. Another being the bums (a subclass of their clients) never wash their attire, they just toss it on the river bank to rot. After all, its free.

So on toward my question..... Over the weekend we were working in a festival type booth and a filthy looking young man, along with his presentably clean wife (or GF) and their kid (I assume) came up to buy raffle tickets. He clearly had no financial sense because he was buying long-shot tickets. But his arm and neck were covered with Tatoos. His right arm was really covered, with his neck maybe less so. I have no idea about the rest of his body, nor do I want to.

My wife asked if those were expensive or cheap. I told her costly. One of my buddies a little later said he thought in the thousands for that kind of coverage. Less if he knew someone, maybe. But the quality, if you can call it that, was at least sharp and clear (hey, he's young, give it 40 years.)

So what does that kind of "art" cost? The guy in question was maybe early 20s, normal size, with one arm from shoulder to wrist inked in some weird **** with points and angles.

She asked because many of the indigent bums have new ones almost every month or so.

In an overwhelmingly large number of cases, far more than their owners net worth would suggest they should or could have afforded.

A half sleeve could cost approx. $2500+
Usually an average size (4"x4") tattoo might cost $300
