Default Flu Shots

Went to the Dr yesterday for a regular check up and he was really pushing Flu shots. Not the Swine or H1N1 which is not yet ready, but the seasonal flu shot.

I have never in my middle age life received a flu shot so I wondered what others thought.

I never get the flu shot.

If everybody else wants to get one so as not to get me sick - then thank you very much.

So far (knock wood), no flu.

I worked in a hospital for 30 years and got shots for everything they could think of including annual flu shots. I seemed to get sick less often than my wife who was less regular about the shots but she worked around kids so she may have been hit more with the new up and coming viruses than I did. I think I could probably have refused the immunizations but given all the fragile people who came through I wouldn't have wanted to pass anything along to them.

I usually get it, but not really by choice. Last year we got the flu sniff. It was a little inhallent tube you had to shove up your nose and inhale it.

I heard something on the radio yesterday that was disturbing. I haven't had time to look up who said it and don't even remember what station it was on but the newsperson said something along the lines of "as of right now, the H1N1 vaccinations will be voluntary." That all I really heard of the story but it sure caught my attention. I don't see how a vaccination could ever become not voluntary.

Because you won't be able to go to school or work without the doctor's certificate that you received the vaccination. Polio shots were mandatory when I was a kid.

Nurse Ratched doesn't get a flu shot?

My Rheumatologist wants me to get one every fall. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. As for the new swine flu shot, no way! I'll pass on that. At least until we see what happens to the guinea pigs that took it during testing.

I believe smallpox vaccines were mandatory too. I have the scar on my upper arm from it.

I got my seasonal flu shot Monday. I will get the H1N1 when the rest of the "employees" get one. One of our benefits!

I usually get the nasal mist. My daughter's pediatrician offers them for ~$30, IIRC, so when I take her I get one too. I'm around a LOT of people on a day to day basis, in different parts of the country. Unlike Barb, I can't count on all of them getting shots so that I don't get sick. As for the H1N1, I'll get it if it's convenient, but I'm not going to go out of my way or spend a bunch of money for it. I think it's a lot of overblown hooey, just like it was in the '70s. BTW, that vaccine caused more problems than the flu did. I hope they get it right this time.

Yep, I remember those also. We lined up in the school cafeteria. I also remember one of the older kids on my block got Polio and had a brace on his leg. Terrible illness.

Got the regular one today. My Dr. says I am at the bottom of the priority list for the swine one and may never get it. The current theory is that those born before 1957 appear to have a natural immunity to the H1N1 if it remains in its present state and does not morph into something else. Us seniors finally caught a break!

I have asthma, well controlled, the allergist strongly suggests the Flu shots annually, I pay him for his opinion so I follow his recommendations.

Yup!
They certainly were mandatory. Polio was the black death of the 1940's-50's. I recall the March of Dimes PSA's, the iron lungs, the leg braces and all the rest. Smallpox was done during routine look sees. However, I don't get the Flu shots. I go 10-15 years between getting it. Frankly I think this go round of it is a media created event.

My whole family will get the flu shot, and probably the H1N1 as well. I've got a 4 month old at home, and I want to minimize the risk to her if nothing else. My oldest daughter caught the flu when she was nine months old. Try being a new parent and spending 3 days in the hospital watching your daughter be as limp as a dishrag and you'll know why I will get the vaccine every year.

I am a little leary of the H1N1 vaccine. Not out of any conspiracy reason, but just out of concern that they may have rushed it a little too much.

Not having a spleen a flu shot is mandatory plus anything else anybody wants to give me that prevents infection! For once I get to go to the head of the line.

I was in private practice for over 30 years, exposed to a wide range of dripping, drooling, sneezing, whining, coughing, headachey etc people.

Never once got a flu shot. Never once got the flu.

OK, maybe once.

re: "Polio shots were mandatory when I was a kid." Me too. I didn't get one. Either time, I think there was twice or three times in my district. My parents were out of town those days and never got the permission slip signed...the mandatory permission slip. Never missed a day all the way through high school due to illness.

Then again.....pre-school, I had 3 different kinds of what they called measles and the mumps too.

I hate being sick, so I get just about every shot that's available. I even bought the Hepatitis Virus B series when it first became available ($125 in the mid-1980's)... a few years later, my employer provided the series so I went through it again.

Could be a hoax, or overblown hype. The avian flu never really made the jump, and if you remember, they hyped it as being potentially deadly even more than they have the H1N1 variety.

This is probably not it, but sooner or later, something like the 1918-1919 Spanish Flu is going to come along and kill a lot of folks.

"I had a little bird. Its name was Enza. I opened the window, and In-flu-Enza."

I believe it is all a government conspiracy. There is no such thing as a "flu" shot. They are using the pretext to inject out citizens with other drugs to keep the population under control.

I know this is fact, because the guy that sold me my tinfoil hat told me so.

You don't actually have to get your shots in order to go to school what not. If you opt not to take vaccinations on religious grounds, you simply need to get a piece of paper certifying this. You may need a note from your religious leader certifying your belief in this depending on where you are.

I don't get the flu shot. Realtor Bob noted that these contain mind control nannites and would allow the government to use a satellite beam to stop your heart via remote control. He did a lot of drugs though. Still, he was usually as good a source as any for information on what the Reptoids were up to.

However, rather than worrying about the nannites, I don't get them because the flu constantly mutates and there's little guarantee that the shot I get now will have any impact on what is going around. I don't know about the swine flu vaccine since I'm fairly sure that I've already had the disease and should be just as immune as the shot would allow. I also don't fully trust the rushed into production product that seems an attempt by pharma companies to cash in on hysteria.

The CDC said the projected effacacy ot the H1N1 vaccine was 30%. ie it will only protect 30% of those that get the shot.

This isn't a program to protect the population, it is a payoff to the healthcare industry for supporting obamacare.

I never got the flu shot until about 10 years ago, when my Dr talked me into it After a few years of them, I noted that not only didn't I get the flu, but I didn't get that many colds either. I asked him about it, and he said it probably increased my total resistance as well as immunizing against the flu. I'm 76 and the last thing I want is a serious illness, I have a lot of guns still to shoot before I get carted off to 'God's waiting roomn".

Incidentally, the uncle for whom I'm named died in the flu epidemic in 1919.

Only time I ever had the flu was in the Army, I attribute that to crowded living conditions and being run ragged. I have been taking Vitamin C regularly for years, that does make a difference. Having good genetics helps too, my mother very rarely got sick.

Oh come on now! How can you even think such a thing??

Everyone in the know, knows it's to inject tracking devices/transponders.

The year I did get a flu shot (peer pressure/set the example as the leader of this professional group I was then President of) ... I got the flu. I'm sure it was a coincidence. Never again.
