Default Modified/Victory Model

Hello

I posted a while ago to get info on this gun. It has been determined that it was a lend lease Victory gun. I have only been able to locate one other gun that looks like this. There has to be more out there. If anyone has pics will you please post them.

I don't have a picture but these guns are quite common, or were 50 years ago when a Free American could purchase a gun mailorder.

When surplused by the British, a lot of them were sawn off to 2 inches to sell in the American market to Colonials wanting a snubnose revolver like their favorite TV detective carried. The fact that this eliminated the barrel lug and front latch did not bother the importers.
Many of them were rechambered to .38 Special to suit We Yanks, which will work after a fashion if you do not mind somewhat bulged fired cases.

The gun illustrated here has been heavily buffed and reblued, with plastic pearl handles installed.

Here's a 1963 ad:

There are lots of these guns floating around. Unfortunately they aren't very desirable as collectors due to the the modifications, and don't make great shooters, either, because of the rechambering to .38 Special.

Lee Harvey Oswald used this one to shoot down Dallas PD Officer J.D. Tippit on a clear November day, also in 1963:
